Tigers Fall Short Versus Lightning



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest to Goldey-Beacom College by the score of 67-58 on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.

Game Recap
 
* Holy Family held a comfortable nine-point lead midway through the opening half.  The Lightning jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Tigers rallied with a 24-10 surge after a three-pointer by freshman Nate Conyer (Pemberton, N.J./BCIT Medford) made the score 24-15 at the 9:13 mark.
 
* Goldey-Beacom responded with a 9-0 run over the next five minutes to tie the game at 24-24.  Both teams would trade three-pointers before the Lightning closed out the half converting 6-of-8 from the free throw line in the final four minutes resulting in a 33-27 halftime advantage.
 
* In the second half the Lightning led 41-32 at the 16:45 mark holding their biggest lead of the game.  Over the next three minutes the Tigers chipped away at the lead and would eventually get it down to three after junior Devon Moore (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic (Merrimack College0) knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 43-40.
 
* As the half progressed, GBC swelled its lead back to nine points when Tyler Jones knocked down a three to give the Lightning a 63-54 lead with 3:34 to play.   The Tigers would go on to score the next four points in the game to come within two possessions of tying the game but were unable to get any closer down the stretch.
 
News and Notes
 
* Conyer recorded his first career double-double in his first collegiate start.  He finished with a season-high 13 points and 10 rebounds while knocking down three three-pointers in the game.
 
* Moore along with senior Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y./The Canterbury School (Hampton Univ.)) and sophomore Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) each finished with 13 points.  Esposito added eight rebounds to go along with two blocks and three steals on defense.
 
* Marcellus Livingston scored a game-high 20 points for the Lightning and finished one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-best nine boards. Juran Ligonde added 15 points, while Kyle Elliot totaled 14 points.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 36th meeting between Holy Family and Goldey-Beacom since the start of the 2003-04 season.  The Tigers are now 20-16 versus the Lightning in the program's Division II era.
 

Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 as the Tigers host Caldwell University in a CACC contest. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
