Tigers Hold Off Wildcats in CACC South Clash



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team came away with a 77-69 victory over visiting Wilmington University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.

Game Recap
 
* Holy Family trailed 30-29 with 3:19 to play in the first half and used a 9-0 run to close out the half to grab the lead for good. Junior Brendan Hoban (Watertown, Mass./Millbrook) bookended three three-pointers in that span to fuel the run.  Freshman Tayquan Busby (Baltimore, Md./Saint Frances Academy) had the other three-pointer in the run.
 
* The Tigers carried the momentum over into the second half and led by as many as 19 points.  Including the 9-0 run over the final 3:19 of the first half, the Tigers outscored the Wildcats 27-8, over 10:29 of game time.  Hoban gave the Tigers their biggest lead of 56-37 at the 12:50 mark of the second half.
 
* The Tigers led 63-45 with nine minutes to play before the Wildcats began making things interesting.  Wilmington went on a 9-0 run over the next four-plus minutes to cut the lead to single digits at 63-54.  Outside a timeout, the Tigers quickly knocked down a three-pointer courtesy of sophomore Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) to get the lead back up to double-digits.
 
* Holy Family increased its lead to 15 points when Hoban knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 71-56 with 3:47 to play.  Wilmington though wouldn't go away quietly as the Wildcats came within five points of tying the game.  The Wildcats went on a 12-2 in a three-minute span to make the score 73-68 with :45 seconds to play.  Free throws in the final minute gave the Tigers breathing room after connecting on 4-of-6.
 
News and Notes
 
* Esposito recorded his fourth double-double in his last five games and his fifth overall on the season.  He totaled 16 points and led the Tigers with 10 rebounds.
 
* Senior Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y./The Canterbury School (Hampton Univ.)) led the Tigers with 18 points and finished one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.  He also dished out five assists and blocked three shots on defense.
 
* Hoban finished with 16 points and filled the box score with a team-high eight assists and eight rebounds.  He also had three steals defensively.
 
* Junior Devon Moore (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic (Merrimack College0) also finished the night in double-figures as he totaled 15 points and six rebounds.
 
* Busby tied his career-high with nine points to go along with six rebounds.
 
* Jermaine Head led all scorers with 21 points to lead the Wildcats.  He also totaled nine boards and three steals.  Danny Walsh added 20 points.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 1 as the Tigers travel to face Dominican College in a CACC contest.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
