Tigers Too Much for Warriors in Cross Division Clash



Nyack, N.Y. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team remained undefeated in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating Nyack College, 74-60, on the road on Saturday afternoon at Bowman Gymnasium.

Game Recap
 
* After falling behind 2-0 to start the game, the Tigers went on a 14-0 run to take any early double-digit lead.  Holy Family shot 57-percent from the field and knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter, while defensively holding the Warriors to just four field goals.  The Tigers finished the quarter with a 22-8 advantage.
 
* Holy Family maintained its double-digit lead through the second quarter and led by as many as 21 points on two separate occasions.  The latter coming at quarters end when junior Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) capped the scoring before halftime to make the score 44-23. 
 
* The Tigers biggest lead came in the third quarter.  Leading 53-32 at the 5:37 mark, Holy Family went on a 7-1 run to increase the lead to 30 points at 63-33.  The Tigers made it a 32-point advantage with :11 seconds left in the quarter when junior Ege-Ly Viirmaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Kadrioru Saksa Gymnasium) scored a layup to make the score 68-36.
 
* The Nyack offense came to life in the fourth quarter but the deficit was too much to overcome.  The Warriors connected on 7-of-9 from the field and 7-of-12 from the free throw line in the quarter.  Nyack outscored the Tigers, 24-6, in the final frame. However, none of the Tigers starters appeared in the quarter.
 
News and Notes
 
* It was an overall team effort for the Tigers as three players scored in double-figures.  Graduate Mia Ehling (Linden, N.J./Holmdel (St. Francis)) (5-8 FG) and senior Elizabeth Radley (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) (6-8 FG) each totaled 14 points while combining to shoot 11-of-16 from the field.  
 
* Hayes also scored in double-figures as she totaled 11 points on the afternoon.
 
* Freshman Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) (4-8 FG) and Viirmaa each finished with eight points.
 
* Senior Casey Schweitzer (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) led the team with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.
 
* Senior Dana Dockery (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) (3-4 FG) added seven points and four boards, while freshman Ky Singletary (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic Prep) contributed six points and five rebounds.
 
* Jasmine Cruse nearly had a double-double for Nyack as she led the Warriors with 13 points and nine rebounds.  Sarah Wilson finished with 10 points.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 24th meeting between Holy Family and Nyack since the start of the 2002-03 season.  The Tigers are now 22-2 versus the Warriors in that span and have won the last six match ups in the series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 15 as the Tigers host Georgian Court University in a CACC contest.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
