Nyack Hits Buzzer Beater to Defeat Tigers



Nyack, N.Y. – A three-pointer as time expired in regulation gave the Nyack College Warriors a 73-70 victory over the Holy Family University men's basketball team in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday afternoon at Bowman Gymnasium.

Game Recap
 
* With eight seconds remaining on the clock, Nyack went the length of the floor as Curtis Thompson was able to get off a three-pointer from the far corner right before the buzzer to give the Warriors the three-point victory.  On Nyack's previous possession, Thompson tied the game at 70-70 with :38 seconds remaining.  Following Thompson's game-tying basket, the Tigers drained majority of the clock before junior Brendan Hoban (Watertown, Mass./Millbrook) attempted a potential go-ahead three-pointer but his shot hit off the rim and out of bounds giving the Warriors possession on the defensive board.
 
* Holy Family held the game's largest lead with an eight-point advantage early in the second half.  Junior Devon Moore (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic (Merrimack College0) scored a layup to give the Tigers a 49-41 lead at the 16:49 mark.  A 14-6 run by the Warriors over the next six-plus minutes tied the game at 55-55.  From there, the game turned into a back-and-forth affair with neither team holding a lead greater than two possessions in the final 10 minutes.
 
* The Tigers led majority of the first half, including an eight-point lead late in the half after sophomore Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) drained a three to make the score 38-30 with 3:03 to play until halftime. Nyack cut into the deficit a tad as the Tigers lead was only 42-37 entering the locker rooms at halftime.
 
News and Notes
 
* It was a career afternoon for Esposito as he not only set a career-high with 31 points but also a career-high 13 rebounds to record his first career double-double. He shot 13-of-21 from the field, including 4-of-7 from deep range.  
 
* Junior Devon Moore (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic (Merrimack College0) scored a season-high 18 points off the bench as he converted 7-of-11 from the field and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. 
 
* Senior Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y./The Canterbury School (Hampton Univ.)) tallied 12 points (5-9 FG) to go along with five rebounds.
* Hoban led the Tigers with a game-high nine assists.
 
* Nyack's Jayden Dawson led the Warriors with 17 points and 10 rebounds to finish the day with a double-double. Thompson tallied 15 points off the bench.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 21st meeting between Holy Family and Nyack since the start of the 2003-04 season.  The Tigers are now 13-8 versus the Warriors in the program's Division II era. 
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 15 as the Tigers host Georgian Court University in a CACC contest.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
