Derby Lifts Tigers Past Bears, 2-1



Bloomfield, N.J. - Junior Hannah Derby (Pitman, N.J./Pitman) scored both goals to help lift the Holy Family University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Bloomfield College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday afternoon at Foley Field.  The win keeps the Tigers unbeaten in conference play at 2-0-0.

Game Recap
 
* All three of the game's goals came in the second half.  Derby connected on her first of two goals in the 49th minute to give the Tigers an early lead to start the second half.  Derby finished off a rebounded ball in the box off an initial shot attempt by junior Cassie Kennedy (Delran, N.J./Delran (Rowan at Burlington County)) who was credited with the assist.
 
* Bloomfield tied the game in the 62nd minute when Tori Napolitano scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Breeyana Jivraj. 
 
* With the score tied 1-1 Derby and the Tigers struck again.  This time off a corner kick attempt by senior Lena Staropoli (Perkasie, Pa./Lansdale Catholic).  Derby was able to get a shot off after Staropoli's kick attempt entered inside the box.  The goal gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead with less than 20 minutes to play in regulation.
 
* The Holy Family defense didn't allow a single shot attempt by the Bears after regaining the lead.
 
News and Notes
 
* Today's two goals marked the first multi-goal game of Derby's career.
 
* Kennedy's assist on the game's first goal marked her first point as a member of the Tigers.
 
* Holy Family limited the Bears to just four shots; second fewest allowed this year by the Tigers. 
 
* Holy Family recorded a season-high 12 corner kick attempts.
 
* In two conference games this year, the Tigers have outshot their opponents, 35-7. 

All-Time Series
Today marked the 23rd meeting between Holy Family and Bloomfield since the start of the 1997 season.  The Tigers are now 22-0-1 versus the Bears in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 1 as the Tigers host Wilmington University in a CACC contest.  Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Tiger Field.
