Tigers Fall to Knights in Non-Conference Action



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest to visiting Queens College by the score of 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Game Recap
 
* Queens wasted no tying lighting up the scoreboard as Victoria Ramirez tallied the game's first goal in the first 86-seconds of the game.  It marked her fourth goal of the season. 
 
* The Knights doubled their lead in the 20th minute when Guro Eriksen came through with her fourth goal of the season after receiving a cross pass from Ramirez to set up the score.
 
* Already leading 2-0, the Knights went on to add two more goals in the first half off a penalty kick by Sarah Marino in the 28th minute and a shot by Nicole Abalco in the 32nd minute. 
 
* Holy Family broke through in the final minutes of the first half with its first goal.  Sophomore Kait Findlay (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) tallied her third goal of the season after connecting on a shot off a free kick by senior Lena Staropoli (Perkasie, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) to make the score 4-1.
 
* The score remained 4-1 most of the second half until the Tigers struck with their second and final goal of the game in the 78th minute.  Senior Susie Blaney (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) scored her second goal of the season on a header shot after a pass into the box from the right side from freshman Gianna Penecale (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland).
 
News and Notes
 
* Blaney's goal late in the second half marked her second of the season setting a new career-high.  Penecale's assist on the score was her first collegiate point.
 
* Ramirez led the Knights with four points on the day as she finished with one goal and two assists.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the seventh meeting between Holy Family and Queens since the start of the 2008 season.  The Tigers are now 5-2-0 versus the Knights in the all-time series.  This is Queens first win versus the Tigers since 2008.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 28 as the Tigers travel to face Bloomfield College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.  Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
