Tigers Sink Clippers With Seven-Goal Outburst



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team entered today's game scoreless but that all changed as the Tigers scored seven goals to defeat the visiting Concordia College Clippers, 7-0, in the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest of the season on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Game Recap
 
* Senior Casey Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) ended the Tigers' scoreless drought with the team's first goal of the season in the 33rd minute.  Brown's first goal of the season gave the Tigers a 1-0 late in the first half.
 
* The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Tigers until the 53rd minute when sophomore Jacqueline Ziegler (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) connected on a shot from about 20-yards out for her first goal of the season.  Ziegler's goal opened the floodgates as the Tigers followed with five more goals in the half.
 
* Marino added to the scoring when she scored on a free kick from about 30-yards out for her first collegiate goal in the 63rd minute.  Sophomore Kait Findlay (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) followed with her first goal of the season five minutes later when her shot deflected off a defender into the back of the net to make the score 4-0.
 
* In the 77th minute senior Susie Blaney (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) scored her first goal of the season.  After breaking the defense, Blaney was able to get a shot off point-blank range in front of the net for the score.  Minutes later freshman Hannah Florentino (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) got into the scoring when she received a cross pass from Findlay who initially was set up with a touch-pass from senior Casey Rodgers (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan).  It marked Florentino's first collegiate goal in the 81st minute.
 
* Leading 6-0 in the final minutes, Findlay capped the scoring with her second goal of the game. It came off a penalty kick in the 85th minute.  The goal marked Findlay's first career multi-goal game.
 
News and Notes
 
* Holy Family totaled a season-high 19 shots with 12 of them being on-target.  On the flip side, the defense held Concordia to a season-low three shots with all of them being off target.
 
* Sophomore goalkeeper Alayna McSeed (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) earned her first win of the season in net.  The clean slate marked her fourth career shutout.
 
* The Tigers also had a season-high seven corner kicks, while the Clippers did not attempt a single corner on the day.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 11th meeting between Holy Family and Concordia since the start of the 2009 season.  The Tigers remain undefeated versus the Clippers at 11-0-0 in the all-time series.  Holy Family has outscored Concordia, 48-10, in the 11 games.
 
Next Up
Holy Family will look to keep the momentum going on Tuesday, Sept. 24 when the Tigers travel to face Mercy College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 3 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
