Tigers Drop Two at Molloy



Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Friday at Molloy College.  The Tigers fell to nationally ranked No. 5 Lewis University, 3-0, and then fell short to the host Lions by the same score of 3-0.

Match Recap vs. Lewis
 
* Lewis totaled 37 kills and committed only 11 errors on the attack as Caroline Stefanon led the Flyers with a match-high 10 kills with a .364 attack percentage.
 
* The Holy Family offense was led by junior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) who totaled seven kills.  Fellow junior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) added five kills.
 
* Senior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) totaled a match-high 22 digs to lead the Tigers. It was one shy of her season-high.
 
Match Recap vs. Molloy
 
* The opening set featured the Lions jumping out to an 8-2 lead before the Tigers rallied to come within two points later in the set.  A 13-9 surge by the Tigers made the score 17-15.  However, Molloy responded with six straight points to grab an eight-point advantage.  A kill by freshman Skylar Osenkarski (Harding, Pa./Holy Redeemer) halted the run as the Tigers followed with seven of the next eight points to make the score 24-22.  The rally fell short as the Lions clinched the set with a kill by Carly Banks.
 
* Holy Family led late in a second set that featured nine different lead changes.  The Tigers led 20-19 after Covington broke a tie with a kill.  The Lions though grabbed the lead right back with four straight points to make the score 23-20.  Both teams would exchange points before Molloy came away with the final point to take the set by the score of 25-22.
 
* Molloy led the entire third set despite the Tigers coming within one point of tying the set on multiple occasions.  The latter coming when the Tigers made the score 19-18 after a kill by Osenkarski.  That would be as close as the Tigers would get as Molloy followed with four straight points and six of the final eight of the set. The Lions committed a set-low three errors in the match clincher.
 
News and Notes
 
* Senior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) led the Tigers with 11 kills, while Covington totaled 10 kills and nine digs.  Osenkarski added eight kills with a .304 attack percentage.  She committed just one error on 23 total attempts.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) finished the match with 36 assists and 10 digs.
 
* Kacey Affrunti and Banks each totaled double-digit kills for the Lions. Affrunti finished with 11 to go along with four block assists, while Banks totaled 10 kills and six assists.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Holy Family and Lewis.  It also marked the eighth meeting versus Molloy.  The Tigers are now 4-4 versus the Lions in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday as the Tigers face the University of New Haven in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 11 a.m. inside Molloy's Quealy Gymnasium.
