Tigers Take Down Ravens to Open Wildcat Invitational



Newark, Del. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team recorded a season-high 56 kills as the Tigers defeated Franklin Pierce University, 3-1, to open the annual Wildcat Invitational hosted by Wilmington University on Friday afternoon.

Match Recap
 
* A match-high 56 kills helped fuel the Tigers to the four-set victory over the Ravens.  Holy Family took set one by the score of 25-19 after closing out the set on a 10-0 run.  Senior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) recorded five kills in the final fun, while junior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) added four kills.
 
* After dropping the second set to the Ravens, Holy Family responded with a victory in set three.  Holy Family used another late run to pick up the win.  Down 16-14, the Tigers scored 11 of the final 14 points to win the set by the score of 25-19. 
 
* Holy Family clinched the match with a 25-22 victory in set number four.  The Tigers recorded 16 kills in the final set with an attack percentage of .400.  Holy Family committed only four errors in the set on the offensive side of the ball. Once again a big run late sealed the deal as the Tigers scored five of the final six points for the win.
 
News and Notes
 
* Holy Family had three players record double-digit kills in the match.  Junior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) led the way with 15 kills to go along with 10 digs.  Pesognelli tallied 14 kills while committing zero errors in the match.  She finished with an attack percentage of .636.  Freshman Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) tallied a season-high 10 kills.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) paced the offense with a match-high 51 assists to go along with 15 digs.  With her 51 assists, Silks now has 1,606 career assists moving her into fourth place in the Holy Family record book. 
 
* Senior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) led the team with 17 digs.
 
* Freshman Skylar Osenkarski (Harding, Pa./Holy Redeemer) totaled a season-high nine kills with an attack percentage of .412.
 
* Franklin Pierce was led by Abigail Garnhart who finished with 12 kills.  Jocelyn Moody finished with a match-high 18 digs, while Cierra Dolan totaled 10 kills.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the seventh meeting between Holy Family and Franklin Pierce since the start of the 2013 season.  The Tigers are now 3-4 versus the Ravens in the all-time series after taking the last three matches; all coming at the Wildcat Invitational.
 
Next Up
Holy Family will face Adelphi University later tonight starting at 7 p.m. to wrap up day one of the Wildcat Invitational.
