Tigers Edged by Eagles, 18-17



Waterbury, Conn. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team nearly overcame an eight goal first half deficit but fell short at Post University by the score of 18-17 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family trailed by as many as eight goals late in the first half when Post mounted an 11-3 advantage after a goal by Morgan Cassiliano at the 9:27 mark. The Tigers though responded by scoring five of the final six goals of the half, including a pair of goals by senior Devon Felix (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) who went on to finish the game with a career-high eight scores.
 
* Leading 12-8 to open the second half, the Eagles increased their lead back up to six goals by the 12:36 mark of the half.  Savannah Schwack made the score 17-11 with a goal that capped a 3-0 run. 
 
* With less than 10 minutes to play in the half, the Tigers came roaring back scoring four unanswered goals.  Junior Casey Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) got things going with a goal at the 9:31 mark.  Felix capped the run two minutes later with her eighth goal of the game that made the score 17-15. 
 
* Post ended the Tigers' run when Cassiliano tallied a score at the 5:31 mark.  Holy Family followed with back-to-back scores by Brown and freshman Yasmine Machlof (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) to come within one goal of tying the game.  Machlof's goal came with :52 seconds to play in regulation.
 
* On the ensuing draw, Felix controlled it for the Tigers to set up one more chance to potentially tie the game.  Machlof was able to get off a shot with :36 seconds remaining but Post goalkeeper Christina Badaracco made the save to preserve the victory for the Eagles. 
 
News and Notes
 
* Felix and Brown each finished with a career-high nine points in the game; tied for fourth most in a single game in program history.  Felix totaled a career-high eight goals to go along with one assist.  Her eight scores are tied for second-most in program history in a single game.  Felix also controlled 14 draws and caused three turnovers. Brown finished with five goals and four assists setting career-highs in both categories.
 
* Sophomore Jenna Heath (Philadelphia, Pa./New Foundations Charter School) made eight saves in net for the Tigers. 
 
* Cassiliano totaled six goals to lead the Eagles in scoring, while Lauren Chambers and Schwack each finished with four goals. Badaracco made 24 saves in net for the Eagles.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 13th meeting between Holy Family and Post since the start of the 2010 season.  The Tigers are now 11-2 versus the Eagles in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, April 9 as the Tigers travel to face Wilmington University in a CACC contest. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
