Tigers Drop CACC DH to City Rival USciences

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader to city rival University of the Sciences by the scores of 5-4 and 8-0 on Wednesday afternoon at FDR Park.

Game 1: USciences 5, Holy Family 4
Game 2: USciences 8, Holy Family 0 (5)
Records: Holy Family (4-40, 4-18 CACC) | USciences (9-31, 7-17 CACC)
Location: Philadelphia, Pa. (FDR Park)

How It Happened (Game 1)

* Holy Family opened the game with a pair of runs in the first.  The Tigers took advantage of a USciences error that led to a run and then senior Casey Boltersdorf (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) helped her own cause driving in fellow senior Olivia Nolan (Shoreline, Wash./Shorecrest) with a base hit.

* Leading 2-0 in the second the Tigers added another run to increase their lead.  Junior Tyler Beccari (Havertown, Pa./Haverford (Temple)) delivered a two-out single that scored freshman Megan Cappadora (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) who earlier in the inning doubled.

* USciences got on the board in the third and cut the Tigers' lead to 3-2.  Gabrielle Simms and Evangelina Olivera recorded back-to-back run scoring hits with Olivera scoring Simms on a triple.

* The Devils grabbed the lead for the first time in the fifth when a two-out error by the Tigers cleared the bases as three unearned runs scored of the bat of Rebecca Colandrea.

* In the seventh it was the Tigers' turn to take advantage of Devils' miscues.  Nolan led the inning off reaching base off an error.  She then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch and passed ball.  Nolan scored on a ground out by Boltersdorf to make the score 5-4.  The Devils entered Kaitlyn Gaynor to pitch in relief and she went on to retire the next to batters to pick up the save.

* Cappadora and freshman Elaina Hansen (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) each went 2-for-4 in the game for the Tigers.  Boltersdorf led the team with a pair of RBI.

How It Happened (Game 2)

* In the nightcap the Devils plated five runs in the first and cruised to a 7-0 lead after the first two innings.  Gina Pustizzi highlighted the first inning with a three-run double to open the scoring.

* The Devils added another run in the fourth to make the score 8-0.  Gaynor, who started the game for the Devils, held the Tigers scoreless through the complete five-inning game.  She scattered four hits and struck out seven batters to earn the win.

* Holy Family received hits from Nolan, sophomore Taylor Nichols (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) and freshmen Abigail Smith (Elkton, Md./Red Lion Christian Academy) and Madelyn Yeager (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham).
