Tigers Fall to Marauders in New Year’s Eve Clash



Millersville, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team fell short in its rally as Millersville University edged the Tigers, 83-78, in a non-conference match up on New Year's Eve at Pucillo Gymnasium.

Game Recap
 
* The Tigers trailed by as many as 24 points after a basket by Samantha Brusha gave the Marauders a 61-37 advantage at the 3:05 mark of the third quarter.  Holy Family though managed to close out the quarter with a 9-0 run capped off by a three-pointer by junior Megan Hughes (Point Pleasant Boro, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) to make the score 61-46 entering the final quarter.
 
* The Tigers continued their run into the fourth scoring the first five points of the quarter before the Marauders ended the run at the 8:12 mark with a basket. Two possessions later the Tigers cut the deficit to single digits after a three-pointer by senior Elizabeth Radley (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) made the score 63-54.
 
* Later in the quarter, junior Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) knocked down a pair of three-pointers on back-to-back possessions as the Tigers came within two possessions of the lead at 79-73 with 1:33 to play in regulation. A pair of free throws at the :40 second mark increased the Marauders lead to eight points. Freshman Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) followed with a quick basket and then a costly turnover by Millersville led to a three-pointer by Radley to make the score 81-78 with :27 seconds left on the clock.
 
* Holy Family quickly fouled resulting in a pair of free throws by Millersville to increase the lead to 83-78 and cap the scoring for the game. The Marauders' defense held the Tigers scoreless on the final possession despite allowing a pair of offensive rebounds.
 
News and Notes
 
* Radley and Moore each recorded double-doubles in the game for the Tigers.  Radley totaled a season-high 26 points (11-16 FG | 4-8 3FG) to go along with 10 boards for her fourth double-double of the season.  She also blocked three shots and had a steal on defense.  Moore finished with 20 points; one shy of her career-high (7-15 FG | 2-2 3FG) and totaled 12 rebounds; also one shy of her career-high. 
 
* Hayes also scored in double-figures for the Tigers as she finished with 15 points and three rebounds. She knocked down 3-of-5 from deep range in the game.
 
* Graduate Mia Ehling (Linden, N.J./Holmdel (St. Francis)) dished out a team-high five assists while also totaling seven points and six rebounds.
 
* Olivia Mottern scored a team-high 26 points to lead the Marauders.  Ty Taylor, Courtney Dimoff and Mia Leonard all finished with 13 points.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fourth meeting between Holy Family and Millersville dating back to the 2009-10 season.  The Tigers are now 1-3 versus the Marauders in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 4 as the Tigers resume Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play versus visiting Post University.  Both teams will enter Saturday's game unbeaten in conference play.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.
