Second Half Run by Chargers Overtake Tigers



West Haven, Conn. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest at the University of New Haven by the score of 78-64 on Sunday afternoon inside Charger Gymnasium.

Game Recap
 
* New Haven jumped out to an early leading after scoring the first seven points of the game.  The Tigers responded with back-to-back three-pointers by senior Vincenzo Dalessandro (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan (Pace Univ.)) and junior Devon Moore (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic (Merrimack College0) on the team's next two possessions to make the score 7-6. 
 
* New Haven maintained its advantage throughout the half and increased its lead to as many as 10 points after Elijah Bailey scored a layup to make the score 23-13 at the 8:03 mark.  Over the next eight minutes the Tigers used a 17-7 surge to eventually tie the game at 30-30 in the final seconds of the half. In fact, the Tigers scored nine unanswered points in the final 2:43 of the half.  Senior Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y./The Canterbury School (Hampton Univ.)) capped the scoring after converting a three-point play with a layup and free throw after being fouled.
 
* Holy Family opened the second half similar to how the Chargers opened the first half with a 7-0 run to take its first lead of the game.  New Haven tied the game on two separate occasions early in the half and the two teams would exchange leads twice. 
 
* The final lead change took place after Bailey knocked down a three for the Chargers to give the home team a 49-47 lead.  Bailey's three-pointer jump-started an 18-0 over a five-minute span to give New Haven a 64-47 lead with 7:19 to play in regulation.
 
* Holy Family came within 10 points of the lead after junior Brendan Hoban (Watertown, Mass./Millbrook) hit a jumper to make the score 70-60 with 2:36 remaining.  However, the lead was too much to overcome as the Chargers responded with an 8-1 run before Moore connected on a three for the Tigers with :25 seconds remaining for the game's final score.
 
News and Notes
 
* Aughburns led the Tigers with 23 points and 10 rebounds to record his fifth double-double of the season and the second in as many games.  He finished 9-of-17 from the field and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
 
* Moore finished with 20 points after knocking down a season-high six three-pointers (6-10). 
 
* Dalessandro also scored in double-figures as he added 13 points and six rebounds.  He connected on 4-of-7 from deep range.
 
* Bailey and Kessly Felizor each recorded double-doubles for the Chargers.  Bailey finished with 24 points and 10 boards, while Felizor totaled 21 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Holy Family and New Haven and the first since the 2013 season.  With the win, the Chargers evened the all-time series at 1-1.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 18 as the Tigers resume Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on the road versus city rival Chestnut Hill College.  Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
