Tigers Fall to Raiders, 70-58



Shippensburg, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team returned to action after the Thanksgiving break and faced off against Shippensburg University on the road in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon at Heiges Fieldhouse.  The Raiders came away with a 70-58 victory over the Tigers.

Game Recap
 
* Shippensburg made the game's first big run after both teams finished the first quarter deadlock at 15-15. With the game still tied, this time at 21-21, at the 6:31 mark of the second quarter, the Raiders used a 10-2 run over the next four-plus minutes to grab the game's largest lead to that point.  Aunbrielle Green capped the run with a layup to make the score 31-23 with 2:17 to play before halftime. Each team would score one more basket to in the quarter as the Raiders entered halftime with a 33-25 advantage.  
 
* In the third quarter the Tigers erased the eight-point deficit and grabbed the lead after senior Casey Schweitzer (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) drained a three-pointer to make the score 38-37 at the 6:13 mark. Schweitzer's three capped a 13-4 run by the Tigers to open the quarter.
 
* Both teams would exchange a pair of points before regained possession of the lead when Treasure George knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 42-40.  George's basket jumpstarted what would turn out to be an 11-2 to close out the final five minutes of the third quarter.  The Raiders re-established their eight-point lead entering the final quarter, 50-42.
 
* Holy Family cut the lead down to as low as five points after junior Megan Hughes (Point Pleasant Boro, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) split a pair of free throws to make the score 60-55 with 3:06 to play.  However, Shippensburg went on a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to increase its lead to double-digits for the first time.  Ariel Jones capped the run with a three-point play finishing off an and-one situation to give the Raiders a 67-55 lead with less than a minute to play.
 
News and Notes
 
* Freshman Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) led all scorers with a season-high 18 points (9-19 FG). Moore also set a new season-high with nine boards. 
 
* Junior Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) added 13 points (6-11 FG) to go along with six rebounds and a team-high four assists.
 
* Senior Elizabeth Radley (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) also finished in double-digits as she totaled 10 points and nine boards.  Radley also blocked a pair of shots on defense and had one steal.
 
* Shippensburg had five players score in double-figures led by Jones who totaled a team-high 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds to record a double-double.  Destiny Jefferson also recorded a double-double as he finished with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Lauren Mills (12), Kryshell Gordy (10) and Green (12) also tallied double-digit points for the Raiders.

Today marked the first-ever meeting between Holy Family and Shippensburg.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 3 as the Tigers open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with city rival University of the Sciences.  Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. from inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.  Fans that bring a 'new' and unwrapped toy will be admitted free of charge. Join the women's basketball team along with the men's squad as they collected new toys for the 'Toys For Tots' charity.
