Tigers Knock Off Nationally Ranked No. 23 Devils



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team opened Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play in dramatic fashion as the Tigers defeated city rival and nationally ranked No. 23 the University of the Sciences, 67-63, on Tuesday night from inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

Game Recap
 
* After splitting a pair of free throws to make the score 66-63 with :12 seconds remaining in regulation, junior Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) came up with a clutch play on defense as she blocked a potential game-tying three-pointer by Irisa Ye.  Ye's shot was blocked with about a second left on the block.  Senior Elizabeth Radley (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) grabbed the defensive board as the Devils quickly fouled.  Radley missed the first free throw attempted but made the second to give the Tigers the 67-63 victory.
 
* Holy Family led majority of the fourth quarter with the exception of when USciences grabbed a one-point lead after a layup basket by Ye made the score 54-53 in favor of the Devils. The score capped a 6-0 run by the Devils that started in the final minutes of the third quarter after trailing, 53-48, at the 2:06 mark.
 
* The Tigers held the game's biggest lead early on in the second quarter.  Ahead 19-17, Holy Family used a 7-0 run to increase its lead to nine points.  Graduate Mia Ehling (Linden, N.J./Holmdel (St. Francis)) accounted for five of the seven points in the run, including a three-pointer to cap the rally.
 
News and Notes
 
* Freshman Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored a season-high 21 points to lead the Tigers' offense.  She shot 8-of-13 from the field and was 5-of-8 from the free throw line.  She also grabbed a game-high and season-best 13 boards to record her first career double-double.
 
* Radley also recorded a double-double, her second of the season, after totaling 15 points (5-9 FG) and a season-high 11 rebounds.  She also set a career-high with five blocked shots.
 
* Ehling finished in double-figures as well as she came away with 17 points (7-13 FG) as she knocked down three three-pointers on the night.
 
* Ye led all scorers with 26 points as she connected on 11-of-21 from the field for the Devils.  Jordan Vitelli also tallied 20-plus points as she finished the night with 21 points (7-14 FG | 5-9 3FG)
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 41st meeting between Holy Family and USciences since the start of the 2002-03 season. The Tigers are now 29-12 versus the Devils in that span after the win.  It's also the first win by the Tigers in the series since the 2015-16 season.
 
Big Win for the Tigers
Tonight's win also marks the first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent since the Tigers defeated nationally ranked No. 11 Adelphi University in the quarterfinals of the 2015 NCAA Division II East Region Tournament.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 7 as the Tigers travel to face Wilmington University in a CACC contest. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the WU Athletic Complex.
