Tigers Roll Past Warriors for 12th Straight Win



Nyack, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team extended its season-long winning streak to 12 straight after defeating Nyack College, 3-0, on the road in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon inside Bowman Gymnasium.

Match Recap
 
* The Tigers have been on a hot streak of late as the team recorded its best attack percentage of the season at a clip of .402-percent.  In fact, it ranks fifth best in a single match in program history.  Holy Family recorded 44 kills in the win while committing just nine errors, which ties a season-low set last earlier in the week against Chestnut Hill College.
 
* Holy Family opened the match with a 25-11 victory in the first set to take the early lead.  With the score 12-9 in the Tigers favor, the team rolled off seven straight points before closing the set on a 6-2 run.
 
* The Tigers finished set two with a 25-17 win before closing the match with a 25-14 victory in the third set.  With the third set tied at 9-9 the Tigers went on an 8-1 run to take a 17-10 advantage.  Holy Family closed out the set scoring four of the final five points.
 
News and Notes
 
* Junior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) and freshman Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) combined for 24 of the team's 44 kills in the match.  Covington finished with 11 kills with an attack percentage of .370 after committing just one error on 27 attempts.  Hartney totaled a match-high 13 kills while finishing with a .450 attack percentage.
 
* Covington also finished with eight digs and is now two digs away from 1,000 for her career.  She currently has 998 career digs.  Covington is also chasing 1,000 career kills.  With her 11 this afternoon she'll enter her next match with 972 career kills.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) controlled the flow of the offense with a match-high 34 assists to go along with 10 digs and a match-high five aces. 
 
* Senior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) finished with nine kills while recording an impressive .692 attack percentage.  Pesognelli finished the match without an error on 13 total attacks.
 
* Senior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) led the team with a match-high 11 digs.
 
* Nyack's Kyra Zuhlke finished with a team-high seven kills.  British Dawson came away with 11 digs tying Boyle for the match lead.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 21st meeting between Holy Family and Nyack since the start of the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 14-7 versus the Warriors in the all-time series after taking six of the last seven meetings.
 
Win Streak Continues
The win marked the team's 12th straight victory tying the 2010 and 2011 teams for second longest in program history.
 
Postseason Picture
Holy Family currently sits tied for first place in the CACC South Division with Georgian Court University with identical 14-3 conference records.  The Tigers could clinch a home quarterfinal match with a victory against Wilmington University on Wednesday.

Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 13 as the Tigers travel to face Wilmington in a key CACC South Division contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
