Newark, Del. – The Holy Family University women's volleyball picked up its 13
th straight victory after defeating Wilmington University, 3-0, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Wednesday night inside the WU Athletics Complex.

Match Recap
* The first set featured a number of runs by each team, but the Tigers made the most important run of the set. Leading 20-16 late in the set, the Tigers rolled off the final five points of the set to take the opening set, 25-16.
* The Tigers carried the momentum into the second set with an opening 10-2 run. Holy Family never relinquished the lead in the set and led by as many as eight points on two occasions with the latter coming at 18-10. The Tigers went on to take the set, 25-21.
* In the third set Wilmington opened with a 4-1 lead before the Tigers rallied big with an 11-1 surge to take control of the set with a 12-5 advantage. Holy Family would lead by as many as 10 points in the set with a 16-6 margin. The Tigers took the set by another 25-21 score to complete the shutout.
News and Notes
* Junior
Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) need two digs to reach the 1,000 career digs milestone and was able to accomplish the feat in the first set. Covington finished the match with 15 digs as she became the 11
th player in program history to record 1,000 career digs. She also totaled 13 kills and is approaching the 1,000 career milestone as well. Covington will enter her next match with 985 career kills.
* Freshman
Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led the team with a match-high 15 kills, while senior
Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) finished the night with 11 kills to go along with a .417 attack percentage after committing just one error on 24 attempts.
* On the defensive end, senior
Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) came up with 13 digs, while freshman
Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) totaled 15 to tie the match lead with Covington. Fellow freshman
Mainerys Munoz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) totaled 14 digs.
* Sophomore
Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) averaged over 12 assists per set as she finished with 38 to lead the match.
* Wilmington's Mandy Behiels led the Wildcats with eight kills to go along with 14 digs.
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 35
th meeting between Holy Family and Wilmington dating back to the 2003 season. The Tigers are now 17-18 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
The Streak Continues
Holy Family has now won 13 straight matches marking the second longest winning streak in program history.
Moving Up the Rankings
The NCAA Division II East Region rankings were announced earlier this afternoon and the Tigers moved up one spot in the second week of rankings to number seven.
Postseason Picture
Holy Family, already a lock for the CACC Tournament, will host a home quarterfinal match next week when the conference tournament kicks off. The Tigers are currently tied for first place in the South Division with Georgian Court University at 15-3. If both teams win their respective final matches they'll each earn a share of the CACC Regular Season South Division Championship. The Lions though would be the number one seed in the South, while the Tigers will be the second seed. A win and a loss by either the Tigers and Lions will result in the winner earning the regular season title outright and of course the top seed in the division.
Next Up
Holy Family will wrap up the regular season on Friday, Nov. 15 as the Tigers host Bloomfield College in CACC action. Match time is set for 6 p.m. from inside the Campus Center Gymnasium. Prior to the match the team will recognize their two seniors, Boyle and Pesognelli, in part of Senior Night Festivities.
