Tigers Clinch Spot in CACC Tournament With Win Over Griffins



Philadelphia, Pa. - The reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) champions will officially have a chance to defend its title as the Holy Family University women's volleyball team clinched a spot in the upcoming CACC Tournament after defeating Chestnut Hill College, 3-0, on Thursday evening inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

Match Recap
 
* The Holy Family offense was clicking on all cylinders in the three set victory.  The Tigers recorded a season-best .375 attack percentage while committing a season-low nine errors.  The team finished with 42 kills compared to 32 recorded by the Griffins. 
 
* The first set the Tigers grabbed the lead for good thanks to a 6-0 run that turned a 9-8 deficit into a 14-9 advantage.  Freshmen Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) (5) and Skylar Osenkarski (Harding, Pa./Holy Redeemer) (4) combined for nine of the team's 14 kills in the opening set. 
 
* The second set was more competitive as the Tigers came away with a 25-22 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match.  Chestnut Hill led 20-18 before the Tigers closed out the set with 7-2 run. 
 
* Holy Family used a 7-0 run to extend its 6-5 lead in the third set to eight points. From there the Tigers never looked back holding the Griffins to six points the rest of the set for the easy 25-12 victory.
 
News and Notes
 
* Junior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) totaled 13 kills while hitting at a .414 clip with one error on 29 attempts.  She also finished with six digs and is now 10 digs shy of 1,000 for her career. Covington also had three aces in the match.
 
* Hartney and Osenkarski each finished with eight kills.  Osenkarski recorded a .500 attack percentage after committing two errors on 12 attempts.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) had a match-high 37 assists to go along with seven digs.
 
* Freshman Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) totaled four of the team's 10 aces on the night.  She also had six digs.
 
* Senior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) led the Tigers with a match-high 10 digs, while freshman Mainerys Munoz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) tallied nine digs.
 
* Junior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) added five kills with a .625 attack percentage as she recorded zero errors on eight attempts. Senior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) totaled seven kills with a .333 attack percentage after committing just two errors on 15 attempts.
 
* Reily Byxbee led the Griffins with 10 kills to go along with eight digs. Corrine Kalala finished with seven kills, while Henielys Ramos added six kills and totaled 14 assists.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 27th meeting between Holy Family and Chestnut Hill dating back to the 2007 season.  The Tigers are now 25-2 versus the Griffins in the all-time series.
 
Streaking Tigers
Holy Family extended its season long winning streak to 11 straight matches marking the third longest winning streak in program history.  The Tigers won 12 straight matches during the 2010 and 2011 seasons and a program record 23 straight last season.
 
Postseason Picture
Holy Family has officially clinched a spot in the upcoming CACC Tournament, which is set to begin with quarterfinal action on Nov. 19.  It marks the seventh straight season that the Tigers have qualified for the postseason.  Holy Family is currently tied for first in the CACC South with Georgian Court University with three matches to go in the regular season. 
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 9 as the Tigers travel to face Nyack College in a CACC contest.  Match time is set for 12 p.m.
