Perfect 10: Tigers Tame Lions to Extend Streak



Lakewood, N.J. - In a battle of two division rivals it was the Holy Family University women's volleyball team that came away with a 3-0 victory over Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division contest on Tuesday evening at the Wellness Center.

Match Recap
 
* It was an overall team effort as the Tigers dominated both sides of the net.  The offense finished with 44 kills and a .267 attack percentage, including an impressive .425 percentage in the third set.  The defense in return totaled 55 digs, while holding the Lions to 24 kills and a match attack percentage of .091.
 
* Holy Family opened the match with a 25-17 victory in the first set and went on to cruise to a 25-15 triumph in the second set.  The Tigers rallied in the third set after trailing early on by the score of 7-2. A 6-0 run gave the Tigers their first lead of the set at 8-7.  Later in the set the Tigers broke a 15-15 tie with back-to-back kills by freshman Skylar Osenkarski (Harding, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and junior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar).  From there the Tigers held on to the lead to finish off the match with a 25-21 third set victory.
 
News and Notes
 
* Both teams entered the match with matching winning streaks of nine straight matches.  The win extended the Tigers' streak to 10 consecutive matches marking the fourth time in program history the Tigers have had a double-digit winning streak in a season.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll), who was named the CACC Setter of the Week, finished the night with a match-high 42 assists to go along with nine digs and a pair of digs.
 
* Covington led the match with 14 kills, while recording six digs on defense.  She continues to inch closer to the 1,000 career dig milestone and will enter the next match with 984 career digs.
 
* Freshman Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished with 12 kills extending her streak of double-digit kills to eight straight matches. 
 
* Osenkarski and senior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) each added seven kills in the match.  Pesognelli also had three block assists, while Osenkarski had two.
 
* Senior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) finished with a match-high 11 digs.
 
* Shana Rayside led Georgian Court with seven kills, while Aubrey Binkley added five.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 37th meeting between Holy Family and Georgian Court dating back to the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 18-19 versus the Lions in the all-time series as the two teams split the regular season series with the road team winning both matches by identical 3-0 scores.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to the Campus Center Gymnasium on Thursday, Nov. 7 as the Tigers host city rival Chestnut Hill College in another CACC South Division contest.  Match time is set for 6 p.m.
