Tigers Hold Off Bald Eagles for Second Straight Win



Lock Haven, Pa. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team had four players score in double-figures as the Tigers were able to hold off Lock Haven University in the final minute to come away with a 77-71 victory in non-conference action on Tuesday night inside Thomas Fieldhouse.

Game Recap
 
* Sophomore Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) gave Holy Family a one-point lead with 3:06 remaining in regulation after scoring a basket to make the score 66-65.  On the following possession, freshman Jah-Seer Aulder (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley (Lackawanna College)) came up with a steal and Esposito came up with a big offensive board and put-back to expand the lead to three-points.
 
* Still holding the one possession game the Tigers came up with clutch free throws in the final :69 seconds of action.  Junior Brendan Hoban (Watertown, Mass./Millbrook) was fouled while attempting a three-pointer and was rewarded with three free throws, which he converted all three t ogive the Tigers a six-point advantage (71-65).
 
* On the ensuing possession, Lock Haven's Eli Washington drained a three to make it a one possession game heading into the final minute. Hoban converted a pair of free throws with :33 seconds left to make it a two possession game again.  Hoban's free throws came in handy as Lock Haven once again responded with a three-pointer, this time by Christian Kelly that made the score 73-71.
 
* Hoban was once again sent to the free throw line after Kelly's three.  He made the first but missed the second.  However, Hoban forced a turnover and as a result the Bald Eagles once again had to foul.  Hoban went to the line and made two-of-two to make the score 76-71 with :18 seconds to play.
 
* Holy Family converted 9-of-11 free throws in the final :69 seconds of regulation to help secure the victory. Prior the Tigers only connected on 7-of-18 attempts in the game. Hoban connected on 12-of-15 free throw attempts for the game.

* At one point in the game, Lock Haven led by as many as 13 points on three occasions late in the first half with the latter coming after a MarkAnthony Fidelis three-pointer gave the Bald Eagles a 38-25 advantage with 3:01 to play before halftime. 
 
News and Notes
 
* Aughburns recorded his third double-double of the season after scoring a team-high 23 points to go along with a season-high 14 rebounds and four blocked shots on defense.
 
* Esposito added 16 points and seven rebounds, while Hoban finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and nine assists.
 
* Senior Vincenzo Dalessandro (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan (Pace Univ.)) contributed 14 points and six boards.
 
* Kelly led a quartet of Lock Haven players that scored in double-figures as he finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Matt Cerruti added 16 points and six boards, while Jesse McPherson finished with 11 points. Washington finished with 14 points off the bench.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked just the second meeting between Holy Family and Lock Haven and the first since the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 2-0 versus the Bald Eagles.  Holy Family won the first-ever meeting, 78-51, back on Nov. 22, 2003.
 
Next Up
Holy Family is idle for a week but will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 3 as the Tigers open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at home versus city rival University of the Sciences.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
