Tigers Rally to Defeat Golden Falcons; Advance to CACC Championship



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's volleyball team rallied from two sets down to defeat Felician University by the score of 3-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals on Saturday afternoon from inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

Match Recap
 
* After dropping the first two sets, Holy Family rallied to tie the match at 2-2 with victories in the third and fourth sets by respective scores of 25-23 and 25-20.
 
* The fifth set saw the Tigers take advantage of the change in momentum as Holy Family opened with a 5-2 run. After the Golden Falcons made it a 5-4 set the Tigers followed by scoring five of the next six points to grab their biggest lead of the set at 10-5. As the set progressed the Tigers came within one point of completing the comeback but Felician made things interesting scoring four straight points.  After a Holy Family timeout with the score 14-13 still in the Tigers' favor, senior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) sealed the victory with a kill to give the Tigers the 15-13 victory and 3-2 match win.
 
News and Notes
 
* Covington and Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) combined for 46 of the team's 64 kills.  Covington finished with 22 kills to go along with a season-high 25 digs; one shy of her career-high set last season.  Hartney established a new career-high as she led the match with 24 kills to go along with nine digs.
 
* As a team the Tigers set a new season-high with 13 total blocks.  Junior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) finished with five total blocks after recording two solo blocks and four assists.  She also added seven kills.  Sophomore Tayana Bennett (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill-Freedom World Academy) added five total blocks; one shy of her career-high.  Bennett had two solo blocks and three block assists.  She also finished with a career-high six kills.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) totaled a match-high 56 assists; two shy of her season-high.  She also added 11 digs.
 
* Freshman Mainerys Munoz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) recorded her first career 20-dig performance with a career-high 21 digs.
 
* Kali Vodrazka led the Golden Falcons with 15 kills, while Jazlyn Pipkins added 11 kills. Pipkins also finished with 10 total blocks (5BS/5BA).  Sierra Gallagher led the match with 29 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 20th meeting between Holy Family and Felician dating back to the 2004 season.  The Tigers are now 18-1 all-time versus the Golden Falcons, including 2-0 in the postseason. The Tigers have won 17 straight matches in the series.  The last three meetings have all gone five sets, including last year's CACC quarterfinal match.

The Tigers improve to 12-10 in the CACC Tournament all time and will be appearing in their second straight conference championship final and fifth overall in program history.  The Tigers won their first-ever title last year and were finalists in 2011, 2010 and 2007.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Sunday to face Georgian Court University in the CACC Championship Final.  Match time is set for 12 p.m.  The winner will receive the CACC's automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Division II Tournament.
