Match Recap

* Holy Family opened the match with a 25-22 victory in a very close first set. Neither team managed a lead greater than two points until late in the set when the Tigers led 22-19 and 24-21. After an attack error by the Tigers made the score 24-22, Holy Family quickly called a timeout.  Outside the timeout, the Tigers clinched the set thanks to a kill be sophomore Tayana Bennett (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill-Freedom World Academy).

* Georgian Court tied the match with a set two victory.  With the Tigers leading 12-11, the Lions went on an 8-1 run to grab a 19-13 lead.  The Tigers were unable to recover from the surge as the Lions finished the set, 25-18.

* In the third set the Lions led 18-14 before the Tigers scored six straight points to make the score 20-18. The Lions would eventually tie the set at 22-22 before a kill by freshman Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) gave the Tigers a 23-22 lead.  However, the Lions followed with three straight points; two off Tiger miscues to take the set 25-23.

* The Lions broke a 13-13 tie midway through the fourth set with three straight points to lead 15-13.  The Tigers made it 15-14 with a kill by junior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) but the Lions responded with four straight points to increase their lead to 19-14.  Holy Family came within three points after another kill by Covington made the score 22-19 later in the set.  That would be as close as the Tigers would get as GCU tallied the final three points of the set to take the set and match, 25-19.

News and Notes

* Holy Family had three players earn a spot on the CACC All-Tournament team, including Covington, Hartney and sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll).  Covington finished the match with a team-high 18 kills to go along with 15 digs.  Hartney added 14 kills and six digs.  Silks paced the offense with a match-high 46 assists to go along with eight digs.

* Georgian Court's Aubrey Binkley was named the CACC Tournament Most Valuable Player as she totaled 16 kills and 15 digs in the championship final.

All-Time Series
Today marked the 38th meeting between Holy Family and Georgian Court dating back to the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 18-20 versus the Lions in the all-time series.  Today was also just the third meeting between the two teams in the CACC Tournament.  The Tigers and Lions previously met in the 2007 CACC Finals, which GCU won, 3-1, and in the 2010 CACC quarterfinals, a 3-1 win by the Tigers.

Winning Streak Snapped
Unfortunately, the loss also snapped the Tigers season-long winning streak of 16 straight matches.  Holy Family's last loss was a 3-0 defeat at home by Wilmington University.  The Tigers' 16-match winning streak is the second longest in program history.

What Now?!
Holy Family will now await the final NCAA Division II East Region rankings when they are announced on Monday night by the committee. The Tigers entered championship weekend ranked sixth in the East Region.  Holy Family has been ranked each of the three weeks moving up the poll each time.  Fans can tune in to see if the Tigers receive one of the five at-large bids into the East Region Tournament on Monday night starting at 7:30 p.m. by watching the Selection Show on ncaa.com.
