Nine Straight Wins as Tigers Shutout Chargers



Orangeburg, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team made it nine victories in a row after defeating Dominican College, 3-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) cross-division match up on Saturday afternoon at the Hennessey Center.

Match Recap
 
* Holy Family was clicking on all cylinders both offensively and defensively in the three set shutout.  The Tigers recorded a season-high .363 attack percentage while recording 47 kills and tying a season-low 10 attack errors in a three-set match.  Defensively the Tigers totaled 56 digs; second most this season in a three-set match.  Holy Family limited the Chargers to just 23 kills; second fewest allowed by the defense this year in a three-set match.
 
*  Holy Family jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match after taking the first set, 25-19.  The Tigers carried the momentum over into the second set opening with an 8-2 run.  Holy Family led throughout and went on to close out the set scoring five of the final six points for the one-sided 25-11 victory.
 
* The Tigers put the match out of reach by opening the third set with an 11-1 run.  Ten of the 11 points scored by the Tigers during the opening run were scored either by kills or service aces.  Only one point was courtesy of a Dominican error. The Tigers finished the set with a 25-14 win.
 
News and Notes
 
* The Tigers had three players record double-digit kills in victory.  Freshman Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led the way with 13 kills and a .310 attack percentage.  Junior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) finished with 12 kills and a .400 attack percentage after committing zero errors on 30 attempts.  Senior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) finished with 10 kills and a whopping .833 attack percentage.  She finished the match with zero errors on 12 attempts.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) surpassed 1,000 assists for the second straight season after totaling 36 in the match.  She now has 1,016 assists on the season.  Silks also finished with 11 digs.
 
* Senior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) recorded a match-high 16 digs.
 
* Covington is inching closer to 1,000 digs in her career.  She finished the afternoon with six digs increasing her career total to 978.
 
* Emmalyn LaPier and Deanna Knopf each totaled five kills to lead the Chargers.  LaPier also had eight digs and three aces, while Knopf totaled nine digs.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 21st meeting between Holy Family and Dominican dating back to the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 12-9 versus the Chargers in the all-time series having won four straight matches.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 5 as the Tigers travel to face Georgian Court University in a key CACC South Division match up featuring the top two teams in the division.  Both teams will enter the match riding identical winning streaks of nine straight matches.  Match time is set for 6 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
