Tigers Fall to Golden Rams in Non-Conference Contest



West Chester, Pa. – Senior Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y./The Canterbury School (Hampton Univ.)) had a career night as he dropped 32 points and 12 rebounds to record his second double-double of the season but the Holy Family University men's basketball came up short at West Chester University by the score of 98-85 in non-conference action on Monday evening inside the Hollinger Field House.

Game Recap
 
* Aughburns scored the first basket of the game to give the Tigers the game's first lead at 2-0, but after back-to-back offensive rebounds by the Golden Rams off two straight misses Josh Samec knocked down a three-pointer that jump started a 14-0 run.
 
* West Chester led by as many as 12 points in the first half with the latter coming at the 5:52 mark of the opening half after Kyle McGee hit a jumper to make the score 35-23.  Each time the Tigers cut the deficit down to single digits, the Golden Rams responded to re-establish their double-figure lead.  Holy Family did come within eight points at the end of the half after junior Brendan Hoban (Watertown, Mass./Millbrook) scored a basket as time expired to make the score 42-34.
 
* In the second half the Golden Rams increased their lead to as many as 19 points on three occasions.  With 3:31 remaining in regulation the Tigers found themselves trailing 91-72.  Holy Family went on a 10-2 run to come within 11 points (93-82) of the lead after sophomore Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) drained a three-pointer with 1:29 to play.
 
* In the final 1:29 West Chester converted 5-of-8 from the free throw line and held the Tigers to just three points by Hoban.
 
News and Notes
 
* It was a big night for Aughburns who saw his best production in a Tigers uniform.  He finished with a game-high 32 points after shooting 14-of-22 from the field.  He grabbed 12 boards and blocked a shot on defense.
 
* Esposito finished in double-figures for the fourth straight game as he totaled 16 points; one shy of his career-high set in his previous game.  He finished 6-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-6 from deep range.  Esposito also grabbed six rebounds.
 
* Hoban tied his season-high with 15 points and set a season-high with 11 assists to record his first double-double of the season.  Senior Vincenzo Dalessandro (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan (Pace Univ.)) also scored in double-figures as he added 19 off the bench (6-12 FG) after connecting on 5-of-8 from three-point range.
 
* West Chester had two players score 20-plus points with Robbie Heath leading the team with 26 points. Heath shot 8-of-15 from the field and was 9-of-12 from the free throw line.  Samec recorded a double-double as he finished with 20 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.  He knocked down 6-of-9 from deep range.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the eighth meeting between Holy Family and West Chester in the Tigers' Division II era, which began with the 2003-04 season.  The Tigers are now 2-6 versus the Golden Rams in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 23 as the Tigers welcome Cheyney University to the Campus Center Gymnasium in a non-conference contest.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
