Tigers Eliminate City Rival Rams; Advance to CACC Semifinals



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team will be heading to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals for the first time since 2011 after defeating sixth-seeded Jefferson by the score of 3-1 in the quarterfinal round on Monday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Game Recap
 
* The third-seeded Tigers struck first and drew an early lead when junior Davis Habilaj (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season in the sixth minute of action.  Habilaj went up the rightside after fielding a pass from sophomore Joel Richmond (Bridgetown, Barbados/Church Farm) and took to the baseline firing a shot that found the bottom left corner of the net.
 
* Jefferson tied the game later in the half when Charlie Livesey scored his eighth goal of the season. Myles-Jordan Senior-Campbell corralled a loose ball in the box and found Livesey for the score in the 26th minute.
 
* Holy Family regained the lead in the 39th minute to take a 2-1 lead into the half.  Freshman Sean Touey (Rockledge, Pa./Abington) headed the ball into the back of the net for his second goal of the season off a corner kick attempt started by sophomore Georg Montag (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan).
 
* The Tigers added an insurance goal early in the second half to make the score 3-1.  Sophomore Will Stackhouse (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) fired a pass towards the box and in return senior Shane Holmes (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge (Harcum College)) headed the ball towards junior Sean McCormick (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) who headed the ball on net for the score.  It marked McCormick's fifth goal of the season in the 56th minute.
 
News and Notes
 
* Senior goalkeeper Mark Tobin (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic (La Salle Univ.)) picked up his 11th victory of the season tying the single season program record for most victories by a goalkeeper in the program's Division II era.  Tobin ties former standout and current assistant coach Mark Ferretti who won 11 games in 2011.
 
* Holy Family is returning to the CACC semifinals for the fourth time in the program's Division II era, which began in 2003.  The Tigers previously advanced to the semifinals in 2006, 2007 and 2011.  In 2006 & 2007 the team advanced all the way to the championship game.
 
* Holy Family has reached 11 wins, which marks the second most victories in the program's D-II era.  The Tigers won 11 games in 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2011. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 13th meeting between Holy Family and Jefferson and the first in the postseason.  The Tigers are now 5-6-2 versus the Rams in the all-time series.
 
All-CACC Honors
Prior to today's quarterfinal round, the conference office announced the All-CACC teams and major award winners.  Holmes was selected to the All-CACC first team, while Habilaj and Tobin were named to the All-CACC second team.
 
Next Up
Holy Family will now face second-seeded Post University in the semifinals on Friday.  The semifinals will be hosted by the Eagles at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn.  Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
