Tigers Sweep City Rival USciences



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over city rival the University of the Sciences in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Wednesday night inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

Match Recap
 
* Holy Family set the tone in the first set opening with seven straight points.  After the Devils got on the board, the Tigers rolled off five more unanswered points to grab a commanding 12-1 lead.  The Tigers took advantage of 12 attack errors by the Devils in the set. 
 
* The Tigers continued their momentum into the second set opening with another huge run this time by the score of 11-4.  Holy Family led by as many as 10 points in the set multiple times with the ladder coming at 23-13.  Errors once again plagued the Devils as they recorded 10 in the set.
 
* With the third set tied 12-12, Holy Family ripped off seven of the next eight points to lead 19-13.  The Tigers then went on to take the set with a 25-18 victory resulting in the three set sweep.
 
News and Notes
 
* Juniors Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) and Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) led the Tigers' offense with 12 kills apiece.  For Johnson, it set a new career-high in kills to go along with a pair of blocks.  Covington also had a pair of blocks.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) finished with a match-high 33 assists and 17 digs. Senior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) also recorded double-digit digs as she finished with 10, while freshman Mainerys Munoz (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) added eight digs.  
 
* Holy Family recorded a season-high nine total blocks in the match with one solo and 16 block assists.  Offensively, the Tigers recorded a season-best .232 attack percentage after committing only 13 errors; the fewest in any match this season.
 
* Bianca Galis led the Devils with six kills to go along with eight digs. Danielle Taylor led the team with 15 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 34th meeting between Holy Family and USciences since the start of the 2003 season.  The Tigers, winners of the last six matches in the series, are now 21-13 versus the Devils.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 as the Tigers host Post University in a CACC contest.  Match time is set for 12 p.m.
