Tigers Knock Off National Ranked No. 15 Wildcats



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team defeated nationally ranked and previously unbeaten No. 15 Wilmington University by the score of 2-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Game Recap
 
* Sophomore Georg Montag (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored the game's first goal in the 21st minute after his shot from inside the box ricochet off the bottom right post into the back of net.  It marked his third goal of the season.  Freshman Sean Touey (Rockledge, Pa./Abington) was credited with the assist.
 
* The Holy Family defense held Wilmington to four shots in the first half with only one on-target.
 
* The Tigers doubled their lead early in the second half after junior Matt Flanagan (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) converted a penalty kick for his first goal of the season in the 58th minute.
 
* Senior goalkeeper Mark Tobin (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic (La Salle Univ.)) kept the shutout in-check coming up with a big save in the 66th minute.  A penalty kick attempt by Wilmington's Ben Jordan was denied by Tobin to keep the Wildcats off the board.
 
* Tobin came away with three more big saves in the final 15 minutes to preserve the shutout.  He finished the game with six saves; including five in the second half.
 
News and Notes
 
* The win today marked the Tigers second victory over a nationally ranked team in the program's Division II era.  On Oct. 25, 2011, Holy Family defeated No. 13 Millersville University, 1-0, on Tiger Field.
 
* Tobin recorded his second shutout of the season as he finished with six saves after facing 13 shots by the Wildcats.
 
All-Time Results
Today marked the 21st meeting between Holy Family and Wilmington dating back to the 2000 season.  The Tigers are now 4-14-3 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series with today's victory being the first since 2002.   
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 5 as the Tigers host Nyack College in a CACC contest. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. at Tiger Field.
