Richmond Lifts Tigers to Homecoming Victory



Philadelphia, Pa. - Sophomore Joel Richmond (Bridgetown, Barbados/Church Farm) scored the game's only goal as the Holy Family University men's soccer team defeated visiting Nyack College by the score of 1-0 in front of over 700 fans in attendance for Homecoming on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.

* Both teams struggled to get anything going offensively as the Tigers and Warriors combined for 16 shots in the game.  The one shot that mattered came in the 81st minute off the foot of Richmond.  The sophomore midfielder forced a turnover just outside the box.  Richmond beat the lone Nyack defender for the ball and then was able to control the ball after Nyack's keeper came out to challenge the play.  In turn Richmond was able to get a wide open shot off to give the Tigers the game's first lead.
 
* Nyack had a chance to tie the game in the 87th minute off a corner opportunity.  Benjamin Wasem got off a header shot but senior goalkeeper Mark Tobin (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic (La Salle Univ.)) made the save to preserve the shutout.  Tobin finished with four saves as he recorded his second shutout in as many games.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 21st meeting between Holy Family and Nyack since the 2000 season.  The Tigers are now 9-9-3 versus the Warriors in that span. 
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 8 as the Tigers head across town to face city rival Jefferson in a CACC contest.  Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
