Tigers Take Down Clippers, 3-0



Philadelphia, Pa. - Junior Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) tied her career-high with 20 kills to help lead the Holy Family University women's volleyball team over Concordia College by the score of 3-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon from inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

Match Recap
 
* Holy Family cruised to a 2-0 lead in the match by taking the first two sets by the scores of 25-14 and 25-16 respectively.  The Tigers totaled 29 kills between the two sets, while the defense held the Clippers to just 15 kills.  Holy Family never trailed in the first set and only trailed the second set early on when the Clippers held a 2-0 lead.
 
* The third set was much closer than the opening two but the Tigers were able to hold off the Clippers to secure the sweep.  The third set featured nine different lead changes with the Tigers grabbing the most important lead change breaking a 23-23 tie.  Back-to-back kills by Covington tied the set and then gave the Tigers the lead at 24-23.  Holy Family then won the set thanks to a bad set by the Clippers. 
 
News and Notes
 
* Covington tied her career-high with 20 kills to lead the Tigers' offense.  Senior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) added eight kills, while junior Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) finished with seven kills.  Freshman Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished the day with six kills.
 
* Senior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) led the team with 13 digs to tie the match-high.  Freshman Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) totaled nine digs.
 
* Sophomore Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) paced the offense with a match-high 41 assists to go along with seven digs and three aces. 
 
* Pesognelli's eight kills increased her career total to 979 as she inches closer to 1,000 kills for her career.
 
* Madison Gardner led the Clippers with eight kills and four total blocks (2BS/2BA). Nelly Diaz and Militza Hostos each finished with 13 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 13th meeting between Holy Family and Concordia since the start of the 2004 season.  The Tigers are now 11-2 versus the Clippers in the all-time series and have won the last 11 matches.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 17 as the Tigers travel to face Pace University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
