Tigers Take Down Warriors, 78-67



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team picked up its second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest in as many games after defeating visiting Nyack College, 78-67, on Saturday afternoon from inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family never trailed in the game thanks to a 15-0 run to start the game.  The Tigers' defense held Nyack scoreless for the first five-plus minutes of the game before getting on the board with a layup at the 14:43 mark. 
 
* Holy Family maintained its double-digit lead the entire first half and even increased its lead back to 15 points after senior Jalen Thompson (Wilmington, Del./Concord (Harford C.C.)) scored a pair of baskets in the final :38 seconds giving the Tigers a 41-26 halftime lead.
 
* In the second half Nyack cut the Tigers' lead down to single digits for the first time since the opening minutes.  A jumper by Joel Bailey made the score 49-41 at the 13:31 mark.
 
* As the half progressed the Warriors came within seven points of the lead at the 8:11 mark when Kennith Ford split a pair of free throws to make the score 60-53.  From there the Tigers used a 13-4 run capped by a three-pointer by junior Vincenzo Dalessandro (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan (Pace Univ.)) to make the score 73-57 with 4:41 to play.
 
* Down the stretch the freshman Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to maintain the Tigers' double-digit lead in the final two minutes.
 
News and Notes
 
* Holy Family had four players score in double-figures including freshman Patrick Robinson III (Chesterfield, N.J./Conwell Egan) as he finished with 18 points (6-11 FG) and eight rebounds.  Junior Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y./The Canterbury School (Hampton Univ.)) finished with 15 points and five rebounds to go along with a season-high five blocks on defense.
 
* Dalessandro added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Montague came through with 12 points, five rebounds and five assists.
 
* Thompson came off the bench and contributed seven points and eight rebounds.
 
* Joel Bailey led the Warriors with 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench.  Shawn Witherspoon added 11 points.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 20th meeting between Holy Family and Nyack since the start of the Tigers' NCAA Division II era (2003-04).  The Tigers are now 13-7 versus the Warriors in the series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 16 as the Tigers host Chestnut Hill College in a CACC contest. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
