Tigers Edge City Rival Jefferson, 2-1



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team opened Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action with a 2-1 victory over city rival Jefferson by the score of 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family scored the game's first goal on a hot-humid day at Tiger Field.  Freshman Jacqueline Ziegler (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) connected on her third goal of the season in the 10th minute of action to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Mackenzie Meyers (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) assisted on the play.
 
* Jefferson tied the game in the 37th minute when Dena Noiseux scored her first goal of the season.
 
* Senior Bree Rock (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) tallied the eventual game-winner in the 52nd minute for her third score of the season.  Fellow senior Alyssa Christiansen (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) hit the ball ahead as Rock made a header shot into the back of the next to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
 
* Jefferson nearly tied the game late in the second half but sophomore goalkeeper Brianna Pudlo (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) made back-to-back saves in the 70th minute to preserve the lead.
 
News and Notes
 
* Rock and Ziegler each tallied their third goal of the season and are tied not only for the team lead in goals but also are tied for the conference lead.
 
* Holy Family held the edge in shots (12-8) and corner kicks (4-1) against their rival. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 25th meeting between Holy Family and Jefferson (formerly Philadelphia University) since the start of the 1998 season. The Tigers are now 11-10-4 versus the Rams in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 8 as the Tigers travel to face Nyack College in a CACC contest. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
