Three Tigers Earn All-CACC Softball Honors

5/1/2018 12:00:00 AM

New Haven, Conn. - The Holy Family University softball team had three student-athletes represented on the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) teams when the conference announced the 2018 honors on Tuesday morning.  Senior Taylor Favinger (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester County Inst. of Tech.) was selected to the All-CACC first team, while senior Koreen Orozco (Whittier, Calif./St. Paul) and sophomore Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, N.Y./Plainledge) were named to the All-CACC second team.

"I am proud of all this team has accomplished this season and pleased to have three of them recognized in the CACC," said head coach Crystalrae States Fusaro.  "Taylor [Favinger] has surpassed program milestones this season; the homerun and RBI record which was no small feat. Koreen [Orozco] is an outstanding fielder, especially off the mound. She gave our team the surge we needed from the mound to get us into conference playoffs. Both have made positive marks on the program. Kelsey [Marigliano] reached her 100th career hit as a sophomore, and I look forward to the rest of her career at HFU."

Favinger is earning All-CACC honors for the third time in her career after receiving first team honors last year and second team recognition as a sophomore in 2016.  It has been a record-breaking year for Favinger who once again has put up career numbers.

This season Favinger is ranked among the conference leaders in a number of offensive categories, including home runs (12 - 2nd), slugging percentage (.734 - 2nd), triples (2 - 2nd), RBI (38 - 4th), total bases (94 - 4th), runs (32 - 8th), hits (46 - 11th) and batting average (.359 - 14th).

Recently, she became the program's all-time leader in home runs (26), RBI (120) and runs scored (138).  Favinger is also six hits shy of 200 for her career as she enters the postseason with 194 career hits.

Just like Favinger, Orozco is now a three-time All-CACC selection as she earned second team honors for the third consecutive season.  Offensively, she is currently batting .305 with 39 hits, eight doubles, four home runs and 14 RBI.  Orozco has a lifetime batting average of .342 with 161 career hits.

In the pitching circle, Orozco finished the regular season with a 9-9 record after going 8-1 in her final 10 starts, including 4-0 in her last four games.  In those four games Orozco went 25.2 innings with an earned run average of 0.55.

Orozco is 44-31 in her career with her 44 wins ranking second most in the program's NCAA Division II era.  She has a career 2.98 era in nearly 500 innings of work and 211 career strikeouts.

Marigliano is earning All-CACC honors for the first time in her career after putting together a stellar sophomore campaign.  She set career highs this season in hits (56), doubles (7), triples (5), home runs (3), slugging percentage (.562) and on-base percentage (.416).

Marigliano is currently batting .384, which is seventh best in the CACC entering postseason.  She also ranks third in triples, fifth in hits, eighth in stolen bases with nine and ninth in total bases (82).

Marigliano recently recorded her 100th career hit and holds a .352 career batting averaged with 102 hits in 290 career at-bats.  She'll enter the CACC tournament riding an eight-game hitting streak.

Holy Family (15-27, 14-12 CACC) will open the CACC Tournament versus second-seeded Wilmington University on Thursday at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J.  Game time is still to be determined.  The Tigers finished conference play 14-3 to clinch the seventh seed after starting the season 0-9 in CACC action.
