Tigers Drop Non-Conference Doubleheader at West Chester

West Chester, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader at West Chester University on a cold-rainy Sunday afternoon.  The Golden Rams completed the sweep with winning scores of 15-4 and 9-0.

GM1 Score: West Chester 15, Holy Family 4
GM2 Score: West Chester 9, Holy Family 0
Records: Holy Family (6-24) | West Chester (28-9)
Location: West Chester, Pa. (Softball Field)

How It Happened (Game 1)

* Holy Family jumped out to a 2-0 lead after senior Taylor Favinger (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester County Inst. of Tech.) launched a two-run homer over the right field fence in the top of the first.  It marked her seventh of the season and 21st of her career.

* The Tigers' lead would be short lived after West Chester plated nine runs in the bottom of the first.  Cat Hammer and Sara Ercolani each had two-run doubles in the inning, while Madison Kelly capped the inning with a three-run homer.

* The Golden Rams added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning that extended their lead to 15-3 before the Tigers scored a run in the fifth inning.

How It Happened (Game 2)

* West Chester opened the game with three runs in the bottom of the first to give starting pitcher Kavanagh all the support she would need.  Maegen Kavanagh (3-6) limited the Tigers to just four hits in the game, while striking out four batters in a complete five-inning game performance.

* Jaime Klemas capped the scoring in the game with a grand slam home run in the bottom of the third inning for the Golden Rams.

Game Notes

* Favinger finished the doubleheader 2-for-6 with three RBI and one run.  Her home run in game one was the 21st of her career as she is now tied for second on the all-time list with former standout Cassandra Fitzgerald-Black (Whitby, Ontario/Fr. Leo J. Austin C.S.S.) (2009-12).

* Sophomore Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, N.Y./Plainledge) went 5-for-6 in the doubleheader with two runs.  She went a perfect 3-for-3 in game one.

All-Time Series
Today marked the 23rd and 24th meetings between Holy Family and West Chester since the start of the 2002 season.  The Tigers are now 7-17 versus the Golden Rams in the all-time series.

Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, April 17 as the Tigers host Goldey-Beacom College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader.  Game one is set for 2 p.m. at Bensalem High School.
