Tigers Drop Non-Conference Showdown at Shippensburg




Shippensburg, Pa. - The Holy Family University hit the road to face Shippensburg University in non-conference contest on Friday afternoon and came up on the wrong side of the scoreboard with a 20-4 decision by the Raiders at Robb Sports Complex.

How It Happened
 
* Shippensburg scored the game's first six goals to take a 6-0 by the 23:01 mark of the first half.  Alana Cardaci and Morgan Stone each scored two goals a piece for the Raiders during the opening run.
 
* The Tigers jumped on board at the 19:39 mark when junior JoAnne Mamie (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) connected on her second goal of the season.  The Raiders though responded with four straight goals before the Tigers halted the run with a goal by senior Rose Bachmayer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan).  It marked fourth score of the season.
 
* Holy Family closed out the first half with back-to-back goals by juniors Dana Trevito (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) and Devon Felix (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland).  It was Trevito's first goal of the season and Felix's fourth.
 
* Shippensburg held a 12-4 lead at the half and went on to outscore the Tigers 8-0 in the second half.  The Raiders defense limited the Tigers to just one shot in the final 30 minutes.
 
Game Notes
 
* Bachmayer and Felix each scored for the Tigers and now both lead the team in goals scored this season with four apiece.  Felix also finished the game with a team-high five ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers.  Bachmayer led the team with six draw controls.
 
* Senior Amber Frechette (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) made a career-high 16 saves in-between the pipes for the Tigers after facing a season-high 42 shots.
 
* Cardaci, Stone and T.J. Johnson each scored three goals for the Raiders.  Jena MacDonald led the team in scoring with six points on two goals and four assists.  Valerie Hertz led the team with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Holy Family and Shippensburg with the first of the all-time series coming in 2013.  The Tigers are now 1-1 versus the Raiders.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Sunday, March 11 as the Tigers host Edinboro University in a non-conference contest.  The game will be played at McCarthy Stadium on the campus of La Salle University.  Game time is set for 2 p.m.
