Tigers Fall to Fighting Scots, 17-6



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to Edinboro University by the score of 17-6 on Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium on the campus of La Salle University.

How It Happened
 
* Edinboro jumped out to a 5-0 lead within the first 11 minutes of the opening half.  Erin Gordon scored the first two goals for the Fighting Scots, while Sophie DePalma scored back-to-back goals on the other end of the run.
 
* Senior Rose Bachmayer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) got the Tigers on the board at the 18:47 mark.  She accounted for three of the team's four goals in the first half.  Junior Vanessa Pagliei (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) scored the other goal of the half; her first of the season. 
 
* Edinboro outshot the Tigers in the first half, 20-12, and took advantage of 18 turnovers by Holy Family to mount a 10-4 lead at halftime.
 
* In the second half the Fighting Scots scored four straight goals to increase their lead to double-digits.  A goal by junior Dana Trevito (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) at the 13:21 brought the deficit back down to single digits.  However, Edinboro tallied two more goals to lead 16-5 with under 10 minutes to play.  Bachmayer scored the Tigers final goal with 6:05 to play before De Palma capped the scoring in the final two minutes for the Fighting Scots.
 
Game Notes
 
* Bachmayer led the Tigers with a season-high four goals to increase her season total to eight and her career total to 80.  She also picked up five ground balls, caused two turnovers and secured 11 draws.
 
* Pagliei tallied one goal and one assists while picking up three ground balls.  Trevito scored a goal and went on to record three ground balls and cause one turnover.  Junior Caleigh Gallagher (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) also had three ground balls and one caused turnover.
 
* Goalkeeper senior Amber Frechette (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) made 15 saves in cage for the Tigers; one shy of her career-high she set earlier this week.  With her 15 saves she now has 200 for her career; third most in program history.
 
* As a team Holy Family recorded a season-high 20 ground balls and controlled a season-best 17 draws. 
 
* DePalma led Edinboro in scoring with seven points with four goals and three assists… Anna Leva finished with six points on three goals and three assists…Meredith Doron and Mary Uplinger each led the team with a game-high five ground balls.

Holy Family and Edinboro were facing each other for the first time.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, March 17 as the Tigers host nationally ranked No. 16 NYIT in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 12 p.m. at Tiger Field.
