Tigers Drop Season Opener at Kutztown



Kutztown, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener on the road as the Tigers fell to Kutztown University by the score of 15-3 in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon at Andre Reed Stadium.

How It Happened
 
* Kutztown scored the first eight goals of the game with Lauren Schmidt accounting for three of them.  Holy Family jumped on the scoreboard at the 13:17 mark of the first half when junior Devon Felix (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) connected on an unassisted goal.  Four minutes later senior Rose Bachmayer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored her first of the season to cut the lead down to 8-2.  However, Kutztown scored two goals in the final minute of the half to take a 10-2 lead into halftime.
 
* The Golden Bears outscored the Tigers, 5-1, in the second half scoring the first five goals before Holy Family tallied a goal in the final minutes.  Junior JoAnne Mamie (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) scored her first goal of the season with sophomore Casey Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) assisting on the score.
 
News and Notables
 
* Felix led Holy Family with five ground balls while causing two turnovers… Bachmayer finished with four ground balls and also caused a pair of turnovers… Junior Caleigh Gallagher (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) also caused two turnovers on defense… Mamie led the team with five draws… Goalkeeper Amber Frechette (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) made 13 saves in goal; two shy of her career-high.
 
* For Kutztown, Schmidt led the way with a game-high four goals… Destanee Watkins finished with one goal and one assist while leading the team with five ground balls.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fourth meeting between Holy Family and Kutztown since the start of the 2013 season.  The Tigers are now 1-3 versus the Golden Bears in the series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 28 as the Tigers host Millersville University in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Tiger Field.
