Tigers Edge Devils, 77-75, to Open CACC Play



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team escaped Bobby Morgan Arena with a 77-75 victory over city rival University of the Sciences to open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Tuesday night.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family used deep range to pace its offense.  The Tigers shot a season-best 45.2-percent from the field and knocked down a season-high 14 three-pointers.
 
* Holy Family trailed by as many as six points late in the second half.  The Devils led 71-65 with 5:49 to play in regulation.  The Tigers kept pace with the Devils and didn't allow the deficit to get more than two possessions.  With USciences leading 75-70 with less than three minutes to play, the Tigers rallied and scored the final seven points of the game.
 
* Sophomore Terrell Jones (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) jump started the run with a three-pointer at the 2:31 mark and junior Vincenzo Dalessandro (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan (Pace Univ.)) brought the Tigers within one after splitting a pair of free throws with 1:52 to play.  Freshman Kharon Randolph (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford School) capped the run with the game-winning three-pointer with :39 seconds to play.  Leading 77-75, the Tigers grabbed a key defensive rebound before giving the ball back to the Devils.  USciences attempted two three-pointers to try to win the game in the final seconds. 
 
* Holy Family knocked down seven three pointers in each half and led 44-40 at halftime.  Holy Family led by as many as eight points (15-7) at the 17:15 mark of the first half.
 
News and Notes
 
* Dalessandro led all scorers with 20 points to go along with six rebounds.  He finished tied for the team lead with four three-pointers.
 
* Jones came off the bench and scored a season-high 16 points, as he also knocked down four three-pointers.  He also had five rebounds.
 
* Freshman Patrick Robinson III (Chesterfield, N.J./Conwell Egan), the CACC Rookie of the Week, finished the game with 15 points (6-10 FG).
 
* Freshman Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) recorded 18 points and led the team with eight rebounds and five assists.
 
* Tanner Kerr recorded a double-double for the Devils as he finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. 
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 8 as the Tigers travel to face city rival Jefferson in CACC action.  Game time is set for 4 p.m. at the Gallagher Center.
