Tigers Drop Non-Conference Match Up at UDC



Washington, D.C. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest at the University of the District of Columbia by the score of 73-67 on Sunday afternoon at the UDC Sports Complex.

How It Happened
 
* Things were looking great for the Tigers early on in the first half.  With the game tied 8-8 three minutes in, Holy Family erupted with a 19-4 run over the next eight minutes to take a commanding 27-12 lead.  Senior Mekhi Bryant (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury (Baltimore City C.C.)) capped the run with a jumper at the 11:04 mark.
 
* With less than four minutes remaining in the opening half, UDC nearly erased a 13-point deficit before halftime.  The Firebirds trailed 37-24 and before the half was over cut the Holy Family lead down to two points at 37-35.
 
* In the second half, UDC tied the game at 39-39 before using an 11-2 run to grab its biggest lead of the game at 50-41 five minutes into the new frame.  Holy Family answered with seven straight points to make the score 50-48, but the Firebirds quickly responded with seven straight points of their own to regain their nine point advantage (59-50) with 9:37 to play.
 
* Holy Family cut the deficit down to five points late in the half when freshman Patrick Robinson III (Chesterfield, N.J./Conwell Egan) scored a layup to make the score 72-67 with 1:34 left on the clock.
 
News and Notes
 
* Robinson, the back-to-back CACC Rookie of the Week, finished with a game-high 24 points as he shot 8-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-5 from deep range.  He was also a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
 
* Holy Family had two players record double-doubles as juniors Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y./The Canterbury School (Hampton Univ.)) and Vincenzo Dalessandro (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan (Pace Univ.)) each came up big on the boards.  Aughburns, appearing in his first game of the season, finished with 14 points (7-15 FG) to go along with a game-high 12 rebounds.  Dalessandro recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 14 points (5-8 FG) and 11 rebounds.
 
* UDC's Kevin Cox recorded a double-double of his own as he led the Firebirds with 19 points and 12 rebounds.  Cox also had a game-high seven steals. Zachary Olukanni finished with 16 points and five boards.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Monday, Dec. 17 as the Tigers stay on the road to face Shepherd University in another non-conference contest. Game time is set for 5 p.m. down in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
