Tigers’ Streak Ends After Setback at USciences



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team saw its season-long four-game winning streak come to an end after falling to nationally ranked No. 25 the University of the Sciences by the score of 72-51 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Tuesday night inside Bobby Morgan Arena.

How It Happened
 
* USciences scored 10 unanswered points after Holy Family opened the game with a basket on its first possession.  The Devils outscored the Tigers, 15-6, in the quarter and never looked back.  USciences mounted a 20-point advantage by halftime thanks to a barrage of three-pointers in the second quarter.  The Devils drained five deep range shots in the quarter and went on to finish the game connecting on 12-of-24 from beyond the arc.

Holy Family: Junior Casey Thomas (Hammonton, N.J./Cedar Creek) scored a game-high 16 points to go along with six rebounds… Senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South (William & Mary)) totaled nine points and four rebounds, while sophomore Casey Schweitzer (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) added nine points, three rebounds and a game-high four steals on defense… Holy Family as a team took advantage of its opportunities from the charity stripe as the Tigers converted 21-of-28 free throws.
 
USciences: Alex Thomas and Jordan Vitelli each scored 13 points to lead the Devils… Thomas shot 5-of-9 from the field and added three boards, while Vitelli added four rebounds… Sarah Abbonizio also scored in double-figures as she finished the game with 12 points.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 44th meeting between Holy Family and USciences since the start of the 1996-1997 season.  The Tigers are now 34-10 versus their city rival with the Devils winning the last four match ups.
 
Next Up
Holy Family will look to bounce back on Saturday, Jan. 20 as the Tigers host Post University in a CACC contest. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.
