Tigers Sweep Devils in CACC Action

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team picked up a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victories after sweeping the University of the Sciences in a conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at McNeil Family Field. The Tigers won game one, 4-3, in extra innings and took game two by the score of 10-2.

GM 1 Score: Holy Family 4, USciences 3 (9)
GM 2 Score: Holy Family 10, USciences 2
Records: Holy Family (15-13, 9-5 CACC) | USciences (3-19, 2-12 CACC)
Location: Philadelphia, Pa. (McNeil Family Field)

Game One: Holy Family 4, USciences 3 (9 Innings)
Holy Family scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to edge the Devils in extra innings.  Junior Taylor Favinger (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester County Inst. of Tech.) scored the first run in the inning after being placed on second base as the international tiebreak rule came into effect.  Favinger would go on to score on a sacrifice fly later in the inning by freshman Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, N.Y./Plainledge).  The Tigers then added two unearned runs thanks to a USciences' fielding error.

The Devils made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth by plating a pair of runs but the Tigers were able to halt the rally to secure the one-run victory.  Senior Bailey Walters (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs) (4-3) went the distance as she picked up her fourth win of the season for the Tigers.  She allowed three runs (2 earned) on three hits in nine innings of work.

Game Two: Holy Family 10, USciences 2
A seven-run fifth inning by the Tigers turned out to be the difference in what appeared to be another nail-biter.  Holy Family exploded for seven runs and collected seven hits in its game-changing inning.  Walters and senior Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) highlighted the inning with a pair of run scoring hits that scored two runs each.  Walters recorded a two-run single before scoring on Scotto's two-run triple later in the inning.

Junior Koreen Orozco (Whittier, Calif./St. Paul) (10-6) earned her 10th victory of the season as she retired the Devils in order in the fifth to end the game.  Orozco went five innings and allowed just one earned run on five hits.

All-Time Series
Holy Family improved to 26-6 versus USciences since the start of the 2002 season.  The Tigers have won five straight over the Devils, including seven of the last eight games.
