Tigers Fall to Nationally Ranked No. 16 NYIT



Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped its second straight game versus a nationally ranked opponent to open the season as the Tigers fell to No. 16 NYIT by the score of 20-2 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at President's Stadium.

How It Happened
NYIT opened the game with 11 straight goals before Holy Family was able to find the back of the net.  Freshman Raquelle Williams (Brighton, MI./Brighton) scored her first collegiate goal at the 8:19 mark of the opening half to halt the Bears run.  Sophomore Devon Felix (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) assisted on the play for her first point of the season.
 
The Bears outshot the Tigers, 20-3, in the first half and went on to take a 14-1 lead by halftime.
 
After NYIT scored the first four goals of the second half, Holy Family tacked on another score at the 11:20 mark.  Junior Rose Bachmayer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) came through with her first goal of the season as senior Nicole Mansi (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) added the assist.
 
Inside the Box Score
Holy Family: Bachmayer and Williams scored Holy Family's two goals on the afternoon… Senior Ursula Coyle (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) led the team with three ground balls while also causing one turnover… Felix finished with a team-high two caused turnovers to go along with one assist and two ground balls.
 
NYIT: Karie Znaniecki recorded a game-high six points to lead the Bears as she finished with three goals and three assists…Kim Geiger and Katie Meinecke each scored three goals on the afternoon… Geiger also led the way with four ground balls…Erin Smith and Taylor Davide each caused three turnovers as the Bears totaled 14 as a team.
 
All-Time Series
Today's game marked the first meeting between Holy Family and NYIT.  The Bears are in their first season as an intercollegiate team.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, March 11 as the Tigers host Millersville University in their home opener. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. at Tiger Field.
