Tigers Drop Season Opener at Nationally Ranked West Chester



West Chester, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener at nationally ranked No. 6 West Chester University by the score of 22-1 in a non-conference contest on Monday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

How It Happened
The West Chester defense held the Tigers to just two shots the entire first half and in turn its offense recorded 14 goals as the Golden Rams mounted a commanding lead in the first 30 minutes. 
 
Holy Family scored its lone goal of the game at the 4:58 mark of the second half when senior Nicole Mansi (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) came through with a score after fellow senior Kacie Booth (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) won the draw.

Holy Family: Junior Rose Bachmayer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) led the team with three ground balls and five draw control victories…Booth along with freshman Laura Hornyak (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) each caused a turnover on defense…Junior goalkeeper Amber Frechette (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) set a career-high with eight saves.
 
West Chester: Ashley Pyle finished with a game-high six points after scoring three goals and assisting on three others… Tara Morrissey and Kristen Vath each scored three goals for the Golden Rams…Defensively, Carleigh MacWilliams caused a game-high three turnovers.

Today's match up marked the fifth meeting all-time between Holy Family and West Chester dating back to the 2011 season.  The Golden Rams are now 5-0 versus the Tigers in that span.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, March 8 as the Tigers head to Old Westbury, N.Y. to face nationally ranked No. 16 NYIT in a non-conference contest. Game time is slated for 2:30 p.m.
