Bensalem, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team remained undefeated in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) after sweeping Nyack College in a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Bensalem High School Softball Field. The Tigers took game one, 5-3, and then rallied to beat the Warriors in game two, 10-7.

In the opener the Tigers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after redshirt junior
Amanda Paredes (Moorpark, Calif./Thousand Oaks) drove in a pair of runs with a base hit in the first inning. Holy Family tacked on another run in the second inning thanks to a run scoring hit by freshman Alina Ponce de Leon that plated fellow freshman
Rachael Zeides (Woodbine, N.J./Ocean City).
The Holy Family lead didn't last long as Nyack responded in the third inning with three runs to tie the game. Morgan Hans cleared the bases with a three-run triple to account for the Warriors scoring.
Holy Family regained the lead in its half of the third when junior
Jen Trapp (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) drove in senior
Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) with a single. Scotto reached base earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice. Holy Family added an insurance run in the fourth inning to take a 5-3 advantage heading into the later innings. Freshman
Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, N.Y./Plainledge) led the inning off with a triple and scored on a ground out by junior
Taylor Favinger (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester County Inst. of Tech.).
Senior
Bailey Walters (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs) (1-0) picked up her first win of the season after entering the game in relief of starter, junior
Koreen Orozco (Whittier, Calif./St. Paul). Walters went 4.2 innings allowing no runs and holding the Warriors hitless. She did issue five walks while striking out one batter.
Paredes led the offense as she went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Orozco and Scotto each went 2-for-4, while Marigliano was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks.
Game Two: Holy Family 10, Nyack 7
The Tigers found themselves in an early hole after Nyack scored four runs in the opening inning. After retiring the first two batters in the inning, Paredes allowed the next three batters each base. Nicole Wisser helped her own caused and connected on a three-run home run over the leftfield fence to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead. Two batters late, Katalina Padilla doubled to left field scoring Aferdita Sinanaj who reached base with a single after Wisser's home run.
Orozco (6-4) entered the game in relief of Paredes and struckout Shelby Davidson to end the inning.
The Tigers got one of the runs back in their half of the first with Paredes driving in Marigliano with a single down the left field line. The Warriors added a run in the second to take a 5-1 lead but the Tiger rallied with four runs in their half of the second to tie the game at 5-5.
Ponce de Leon and Marigliano recorded back-to-back run scoring singles to center field. Three batters later, Scotto delivered a two-run single to left field to tie the game.
In the third, the Tigers came up big again, this time with a five-run inning to grab the lead for the first time in the game. With the bases loaded, Marigliano drew a walk to score the go-ahead run. After Nyack retired Favinger with a foul ball out, Paredes came through with the biggest hit in the inning as she drove the ball over the leftfield fence for a grand slam homer. It marked Paredes' first home run of the season and first since her freshman season.
Nyack added a pair of runs in the sixth inning but Orozco held the Warriors in-check the rest of the way to close out the game and earn her sixth victory of the season. Orozco went 6.1 innings as she allowed three runs on five hits while striking out two.
Six players recorded multiple hits in the game for the Tigers, including Paredes who went 2-for-3 with five RBI. She finished the doubleheader 5-for-7 with seven RBI. Scotto (2-4) and Marigliano (2-3) each drove in a pair of runs in game two.

Today marked the 31

nd meetings all-time between Holy Family and Nyack dating back to the 2002 season. The Tigers are now 28-4 in the series versus the Warriors and have won 12 straight games.
Funds for a Cause
The Holy Family softball team hosted its annual game to raise funds for a cause. This year, the team decided to raise money to help support assistant coach,
Shana Treon, and her grandparents as they deal with her grandmother's battle and final stages of Alzheimer's disease. Treon is the primary caretaker for her grandparents and the team decided to play today's doubleheader in honor of Treon, her grandmother, and anyone who has been touched by or dealt with this terrible disease. The team wore special black & purple uniforms to show their support. The team also started a GoFundMe page to support Treon's family. You could read all about her story and donate here:
