Tigers Drop Conference Opener to Griffins



Lafayette Hill, Pa. - Sophomore Devon Felix (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) scored a career-high four goals, however the Holy Family University women's lacrosse team came up short in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) to Chestnut Hill College, 18-8, on Monday afternoon at Victory Field #1 on the campus of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.

How It Happened
Once a back-and-forth game quickly turned into a one-sided affair as Chestnut Hill outscored Holy Family, 11-4, in the second half.  The Griffins scored seven of the first eight goals in the second half after leading 7-4 at the half.
 
Chestnut Hill scored five unanswered goals in a five-minute span early in the second half, including three by Lea Sanders.  The Griffins capped their run with a goal by Julia Reinert at the 20:09 mark that made the score 14-5.
 
Holy Family halted the Griffins' rally when senior Kacie Booth (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) scored her first goal of the season, but Chestnut Hill responded with four straight scores.  The Tigers capped the scoring for the game with two goals in the final five minutes.
 
Holy Family opened the game with the first of four goals on the afternoon for Felix.  Chestnut Hill countered with four straight scores before back-to-back goals from Felix cut the lead down to 4-3 midway through the opening half.
 
Felix came through with her fourth goal of the first half at the 7:59 mark to make it a one-goal game again at 5-4.  However, Chestnut Hill went on to score two more goals before the half was over to take a 7-4 lead entering halftime.

Holy Family: It was a career day for Felix as she scored a career-high four goals to lead the Holy Family offense… She also controlled a team-high four draws…Senior Nicole Mansi (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) recorded a multi-score game as she finished with two goals and one assist for three points… Booth and sophomore Vanessa Pagliei (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) each recorded a goal and an assist on the afternoon…Sophomore JoAnne Mamie (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) caused a pair of turnovers on the defensive side of the ball and picked up one ground ball... Junior goalkeeper Amber Frechette (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) recorded a career-high 12 saves as it marked her third straight double-digit save game.
 
Chestnut Hill: Jacklyn O'Leary and Sanders combined for nine of the team's 18 goals scored on the afternoon… O'Leary finished with five goals and one assist for six points, while Sanders totaled four goals to go along with a pair of ground balls…Julia Galantich led the team with a game-high eight ground balls while scoring two goals and assisting on two others for four points...Goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang finished with nine saves and in the process surpassed 500 saves in her career.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 15th meeting all-time between Holy Family and Chestnut Hill dating back to the 2009 season.  It marked the Griffins second straight victory over the Tigers and first winning streak since opening the series with back-to-back wins.  Holy Family holds a 10-5 edge in the series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Thursday, March 23 as the Tigers host Mercy College in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Tiger Field.
