Kutztown Defeats Tigers in Non-Conference Action



Conshohocken, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team came up short in a non-conference contest versus Kutztown University as the Golden Bears came away with a 16-4 victory on Saturday morning at the Proving Grounds Turf Fields in Conshohocken.

How it Happened
A 5-0 run by Kutztown midway through the first half turned out to be the difference maker as only one goal separated the two teams early on in the match up.  The Golden Bears scored the first two goals of the game in the opening minute, but Holy Family ended up scoring two of the next three goals to trail 3-2 by the 19:03 mark.
 
Sophomore Dana Trevito (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) tallied her first goal of the season at 25:23 before junior Rose Bachmayer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) came through with the first of her three goals on the day at 19:03.
 
However, Kutztown came through with five straight goals to lead 8-2 by the 13:02 mark.  The Tigers counter with back-to-back scores by Bachmayer to close the gap to four with under seven to play in the half. 
 
The Golden Bears tallied the final two goals of the half to grab a 10-4 advantage heading into halftime.  Makayla Bowman was responsible for both scores as she went on to finish the game with six goals.  Kutztown went on to outscore the Tigers in the second half, 6-0.

Holy Family: Bachmayer erupted for a season-high three goals to lead the Holy Family offense…She also finished with three ground balls and was a perfect 2-for-2 on free position shots…Trevito scored the other goal for the Tigers; her first of the season… Senior Kacie Booth (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) and sophomore Vanessa Pagliei (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) each tallied an assist on the afternoon…Senior Ursula Coyle (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) led the team defensively as she totaled five ground balls and caused three turnovers…Junior goalkeeper Amber Frechette (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) tied her career-high with 10 saves and also recorded three ground balls and caused one turnover.
 
Kutztown: Bowman and Sarah Gabriele combined for 11 of the team's 16 goals… Bowman finished with a game-high six scores, while Gabriele totaled five goals to go along with six ground balls…Emily Smith was successful on the draw for the Golden Bears as she finished with 11 draw controls while forcing three turnovers…Lauren Huggins finished the day with three goals, three ground balls and three caused turnovers… As a team, Kutztown held an 18-4 advantage on the draw and were 11-of-13 on clears… The Golden Bears also totaled 27 ground balls.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the third meeting between Holy Family and Kutztown since facing one another for the first time in 2013.  The Golden Bears currently control the all-time series with a 2-1 record after winning their second straight game over the Tigers.  Holy Family won the first meeting of the series, 8-5.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Monday, March 20 as the Tigers host Chestnut Hill College in the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest of the season.  The game will be played at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School on Victory Field #1.  Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
