Tigers Edged by City Rival Rams, 73-67



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team nearly stunned city rival Jefferson but the Rams managed to edge the Tigers, 73-67, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family trailed 23-18 after the first quarter but eventually tied the game at 28-28 midway through the second quarter.  From there the Tigers scored 13 unanswered points to close out the quarter and as a result entered halftime with a 41-28 advantage.  Holy Family outscored the Rams, 23-5, in the quarter. Sophomore Elizabeth Radley (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) scored nine of the team's points in that final run as she finished the first half with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
 
* Holy Family led by as many as 15 points after freshman Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) opened the third quarter with a fast-break layup after recording a steal on the Rams' first possession.
 
* Jefferson chipped away at the Tigers' lead in the third quarter and cut the deficit down to three points by quarters end at 52-49.  The Rams would go on to tie the game at 58-58 with 7:17 remaining in the final quarter. Less than a minute later outside a timeout, Jefferson grabbed the lead thanks to a three-point basket by Erin Maher.  From there the Rams maintained the lead the rest of the way holding the Tigers off down the stretch.

Holy Family: Radley led all scorers with 23 points as she set a new career-high after connecting on 10-of-17 from the field… She also grabbed eight rebounds… Freshman Jada Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) recorded her fifth double-double of the season and second in as many games after scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds… She also tied her season-high with five assists… Senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South (William & Mary)) finished the day with 13 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists, while sophomore Casey Schweitzer (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) added eight points and four rebounds.
 
Jefferson: Maher led the Rams with a team-high 18 points while grabbing eight rebounds… Jessica Kaminski recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards… She also had a game-high seven assists and four steals… Rachel Day added 15 points and six rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 27th meeting between Holy Family and Jefferson (formally Philadelphia University) since the start of the 2005-06 season. The Tigers are now 20-7 versus their cross-town rival in that span.  The Rams have won five of the last six match ups.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 19 as the Tigers travel to face Chestnut Hill College in a CACC contest. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
