Tigers Fall to Wildcats in CACC South Clash



Newark, Del. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Wilmington University by the score of 73-62 on Tuesday night at the WU Athletics Complex.

How It Happened
 
* A big third quarter by Wilmington forced Holy Family to battle back from a double-digit deficit.  The Wildcats led only by two points (31-29) at halftime but opened the third quarter with a 10-2 run to grab the game's first double-digit lead of the game at 41-31 midway through the quarter.  The Wildcats went on to lead by as many as 16 points (49-33) before taking a 50-38 lead into the final 10 minutes.
 
* After being outscored, 19-9, in the third quarter the Tigers came out battling in the fourth.  Holy Family chipped away at the Wildcats' lead and got the deficit down to as low as six points after sophomore Casey Schweitzer (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) drained a three-pointer to make the score 62-56 with 2:26 to play.
 
* Wilmington responded and swelled its lead back up to double-digits (66-56) after Jadyn Whitsitt split a pair of free throws with 1:21 to play. From there the Wildcats were able to hold off the Tigers and keep their double-digit lead at the final buzzer.

Holy Family: Freshman Jada Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) recorded her fourth double-double of the season as she led the team in scoring with 16 points while grabbing a season-high 15 boards… She also dished out five assists…. Junior Casey Thomas (Hammonton, N.J./Cedar Creek) tied her career-high with 13 rebounds while scoring eight points… Schweitzer finished with a season-high 13 points and six rebounds… Freshman Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) recorded a season-high 13 points.
 
Wilmington: Whitsitt finished with a game-high 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting… She also added six rebounds… Macy Robinson recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds… Nyree Grant came off the bench and added 19 points and seven rebounds… Emma Matthews contributed seven points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 33rd meeting between Holy Family and Wilmington since the start of the 2002-03 season.  The Tigers are now 30-3 versus the Wildcats in that span.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 9 as the Tigers host cross-town rival Jefferson in a CACC South division contest.  Game time is set for 12 p.m. inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.
