Smith, Thomas Record Double-Doubles in 78-58 Victory



Philadelphia, Pa. - Holy Family University junior Casey Thomas (Hammonton, N.J./Cedar Creek) and freshman Jada Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) each recorded double-doubles in the team's 78-58 victory over Salem University in a non-conference contest on Wednesday night inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family led majority of the game and last trailed at the 5:22 mark of the first quarter when Salem held a slim 8-7 lead.  Holy Family grabbed the lead for good on a tip-in basket by sophomore Dana Dockery (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) later in the quarter that made the score 9-8 in favor of the home Tigers. 
 
* Holy Family led by as many as eight points in the second quarter when a layup score by Thomas made the score 30-22.  Holy Family would go into the locker rooms at halftime with a six point (34-28) advantage thanks to a score by Smith as time expired.
 
* In the third quarter, Holy Family swelled its lead to double-digits but Salem managed to cut the deficit down to six points (50-44) by the time the quarter came to an end.  Holy Family came out firing in the fourth quarter knocking down three three-pointers within the first two-plus minutes to take command of the game.  Holy Family opened with an 11-4 run fueled by deep range shots.  Holy Family outscore Salem in the fourth quarter, 28-14.

Holy Family: Thomas led Holy Family with a game-high 20 points to go along with a career-best 13 rebounds… It marked Thomas' second straight double-double and her second consecutive 20-point performance… Smith finished with a season-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field as she totaled 10 boards for her third double-double of the season… Sophomore Casey Schweitzer (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) produced a season-high 10 points, while senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South (William & Mary)) totaled 12 points, five rebounds and a game-high seven assists… Sophomore Dana Dockery (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) and freshman Ege-Ly Viirmaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Kadrioru Saksa Gymnasium) each added six points in the victory.
 
Salem: Aaliyah Dotson and Keishla Gilmore each led Salem with 15 points apiece… Jillian Romero added 13 points, while Isis Mance totaled nine points.

It marked the first match up between the two Tigers as Holy Family and Salem never met prior to tonight's contest.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 2 as the Tigers host city and conference rival University of the Sciences in the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest of the season. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.  Prior to the game, Holy Family and the CACC will officially induct the 2007-08 women's basketball team into the CACC Hall of Fame as part of the 2017-18 class.
