Late Rally Lifts Huskies Over Tigers in Non-Conference Action



Bloomsburg, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest at Bloomsburg University by the score of 63-54 in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at the Nelson Field House.

How It Happened
 
* A 10-0 run early in the fourth quarter by the Huskies turned out to be the difference in the game.  Holy Family tied the game at 47-47 on its first possession of the quarter after sophomore Casey Schweitzer converted a pair of free throws.  The Huskies responded with 10 unanswered points over a five-minute span to lead 57-47 by the 4:44 mark. 
 
* The Huskies increased their lead to as many as 13 points with 2:13 to play in the final quarter after a layup basket by Emma Saxton made the score 62-49. 
 
* Bloomsburg overcame a 37-25 halftime deficit.  The Tigers led by double-digits at the half thanks to a last second three-pointer by freshman Ege-Ly Viirmaa (Tallinn, Estonia, Kadrioru Saksa Gymnasium) closed out the first half.
 
Inside the Box Score
Holy Family: Freshman Jada Smith (Philadelphia, Pa., Merion Mercy Academy) recorded her second double-double of the season as she finished with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds… Smith also totaled a game-high four steals on defense… Junior Casey Thomas (Hammonton, N.J., Cedar Creek) led the Tigers in scoring with a game-high 13 points to go along with six rebounds… Senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Richboro, Pa., Council Rock South (William & Mary)) finished with seven points, four rebounds and a game-high four assists.
 
Bloomsburg: The Huskies had two players score in double-figures as Meghan Corridoni and Leah Myers each finished with 10 points… Corridoni also grabbed seven rebounds… Taylor Montana came off the bench and recorded eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the sixth meeting all-time between Holy Family and Bloomsburg.  The Huskies are now 4-2 versus the Tigers after tonight's win.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 26 as the Tigers host West Chester University in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 12 p.m. inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.
