Tigers Upended by Pioneers in Non-Conference Clash



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team suffered its fourth straight defeat to open the season after falling to LIU Post by the score of 76-61 in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* LIU Post outscored Holy Family, 14-0, the final 2:13 of the second quarter to turn what once was a tied game at 24-24 into a double-digit advantage heading into the locker rooms at halftime (36-24).  The Tigers turned the ball over six times in that span with five turning into points for the Pioneers.
 
* The Pioneers swelled their lead to as many as 16 points (44-28) in the third quarter before the Tigers cut into the lead and knocked it down to single digits. A three-pointer by junior Katie O'Hare (West Chester, Pa., Bayard Rustin) capped a 10-2 run by the Tigers with 3:00 minutes to play in the third. LIU Post quickly responded and went on to close out the third quarter on a 9-4 run.
 
* LIU Post grabbed its biggest lead of the game midway through the final quarter.  A Mikaiya Moore layup gave the Pioneers a 22-point lead at 70-48 capping a 15-6 run to open up the quarter.
 
* Turnovers plagued the Tigers as LIU Post forced 19 Tigers' miscues resulting in 24 points for the game.  The Pioneers also came up big on the second chance points outscoring Holy Family, 18-9.
 
Inside the Box Score
Holy Family: Senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Richboro, Pa., Council Rock South (William & Mary)) filled the box score as she finished with a season-high 16 points to go along with nine rebounds and six assists… She shot 6-of-12 from the field and was 3-of-5 from deep range… O'Hare also scored in double-figures as she totaled 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting… Junior Casey Thomas (Hammonton, N.J., Cedar Creek) totaled nine points (3-5FG), while sophomore Elizabeth Radley (Hainesport, N.J., Bishop Eustace Prep) added seven points and four boards.
 
LIU Post: The Pioneers had four players scored in double-figures… Sasha Patterson led the way as she recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds… Patterson connected on 6-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line… Moore added 12 points and six rebounds, while Kristen Olsen came off the bench to total 12 points… Kylie Garrett contributed 10 points and three rebounds off the bench.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fifth meeting all-time between Holy Family and LIU Post since the start of the 2008-09 season.  The Tigers are now 3-2 versus the Pioneers in the series with LIU Post winning the previous two match ups.

Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 21 as the Tigers travel to face Bloomsburg University in a non-conference contest. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
